Ok gonna replace the barrel in my sig 1911 .45acp.

What would your match grade replacement be?

On a budget, and if money was no object?

My original Black Nitron finish gun is showing some wear on OR IN the barrel, and am thinking about switching it out pretty soon.

be safe.

Are you talking about visible external finish wear? What about the current accuracy? Bushing fit correctly? What are your accuracy requirements?

To answer your questions directly, Kart and...... Kart, unless you want stainless. Then Barsto or Scheumann in that order. Other than that, it's all in the fit.

The external finish has nothing to do with what I am looking at. The fit is loose at the bushing, and my lands dont start now until about half way down the barrel.

I have many, many rounds thru this stock barrel, and want it to shoot at accurate as my TTT.

I will look up Kart, Barsto, et al.

thanks

be safe.

Most of the match guns at Perry use Kart barrels. Brownells carries them in the basic models, but not all configurations. If you need something specific like compact or ramped, you'll have to call. Kart does not have a website, but you can contact them at:

You don't just "switch it out," the fitting is at least as important as the choice of barrel.
I don't know anybody to recommend, most of the gunsmith work you see illustrated has more emphasis on the French fried borders and checkering on non-grasping surfaces. You seldom see a target. Phooey.

That said, Kart is the leader in chrome moly.
For stainless, Barsto is the best known, but you will get recommendations for Schueman, KKM, and even Storm Lake.
My most accurate .45 has a Wilson barrel in a Colt gun.

Got a 'smith to switch out my stock barrel for a match grade Wilson Combat. New skeleton trigger going in too!

Thanks for the input of experience from y'all!

be safe

Budget - Storm Lake Machining. Cost no object - Wilson or Bar Sto or Kart. But the actual fit is at least as important as the quality of the barrel machining and bore finish.

Update on the barrel

Well I decided on an Ed Brown barrel and bushing, STI skeleton trigger. Had my local Gunsmiths drop in the new barrel.

Took to the range, and boy oh boy! This is such a step up from the original barrel!

At 8yds, I warmed up with about a 6" group. meh, but after I and the gun got going the group got smaller and smaller. down to a big hole in the target about 3". I had put probably 8 mags thru that hole.

This is really an awesome gun again now.

be safe
