going with AK-47!

Rabies, if not treated, you die from dehydration. Your mind becomes Hydrophobic! Scared of Water

Rabies is a type of encephalitis. It is almost always fatal, if symptoms arise. It is probably the deadliest disease known to man. Only a small handful of people are thought to have ever survived it.

You do not die from dehydration. You die from inflammation of the brain. One of the symptoms of rabies is fear of water, No one knows why this is, and rabies used to be called hydrophobia.

Sounds like a AK-47 is the cure then! Drop a Rabbit Bear Quick

Just out of curiosity I wish the story went into greater detail; like what handgun was used and what it was chambered in. Thank God somebody was around that had a gun handy. Years ago we had a small black bear in our neighborhood. Right in the woods next to our house, so until he got trapped & relocated I had the .30-30 handy just in case.

I do like the victim‘s attitude, says he feels sorry for the bear.
Absolutely correct! It wasn't a rabid bear. It was a *Rioting*bear, just trying to feed its family

-jb, it was bearly a misdemeanor

would a 30-30 take down a Bear? I always thought of it as a light round

My thought exactly but then my second thought was that no matter what it was it was effective but would be criticized as both underpowered and overkill at the same time by people who know no better. I’m just going to assume it was a butler single shot 22short derringer shooting colibri ammo.

Sure will. Within reasonable ranges the .30-30, .32 Win Spl, .35 Rem, etc. are all enough for black bears. A .30-30 firing the 170 gr partition is quite a round for such critters.

Now, I would want a cartridge with more horsepower than the .30-30 offers for the bigger brown bears in Alaska or here in the lower 48.

Stay safe.

20 or so years ago, a black bear snatched an infant at a summer resort near me. The responding officer killed the bear with a .40 S&W service pistol. Unfortunately, the child died.

The "returned with a handgun" kind of had me scratching my head. If I had to go home and get a gun, I'd come back with something bigger. I guess that's all he had.

Thanks for sharing. Rabies in bears is not something you hear about too often. Bobcat, coons, and dogs are the ones I've always heard of.

I've never heard that anyone ever survived rabies. Interesting.
