kieran - talk to Tim at Ko-Tonics. He is the cheapest FFL transfer I've found in RTP at $20, but is also a really friendly guy and you might be able to work a group rate if you ask nicely.

Jim's Guns in Raleigh also charges $20 for a transfer I believe and he is close to Raleigh and Cary.
I have dealt with him many times and he is easy to get along with.

CCW Waiting Time in Orange County

Hey all,

I live in Orange County and put my paperwork in for my CCW about seven weeks ago. I know it can take up to 90 days, but was wondering what your experiences have been in Orange County?

Bear

thanks guys. maybe i'll make it to SSI with some of the new toys once they're built.

Bear - mine took about 100 days in Orange County. Our gun permit rules here are draconian, and they evade the 90-day law by telling you that the permit was approved within 90 days but "hasn't been printed in raleigh yet."

Roxy Wilkins will call you and leave a message when your permit has arrived, then you have to go pick it up at the Sheriff's office.

Conquerer,
Yeah, Roxy handled my permit. She's super friendly and not at all unsympathetic.
Bear

Whats up with Orange County? Thats a long time.... Over here in Granville Co., my wife and I applied at the same time, both CCW permits arrived in 9 days. I couldn't believe it....

Jeff

Got My CCW

Finally, 85 days after it was put in. I don't know if this is Orange County's policy. I think it gets hung up in Raleigh. But who knows.

Congrats :)

When you wanna get together and shoot again??

I paid my dues at Buckhorn late, didn't send my check in til the 2nd (holidays are hectic round here). Just got my keys in the mail last week.

Hey,

Good to hear from you. I usually shoot on Saturday or Sunday morning. But if you're interested, I could take you as a visitor to the DPRC so you could check it out. I need to get over there anyway so that I don't feel like I'm wasting my membership. I probably shouldn't have renewed at Buckhorn, but I like its pistol ranges more and, if I do get into it someday, its setup for skeet is better. DPRC, though, has a 300-yard range and is more social, the kind of place (if I had any) I'd want to bring my kids to shoot.

I'd definitely like to check out DPRC sometime. I'm occupied this weekend, but maybe next or the one after we can get together somewhere and expend some lead. :)

I'll be at the DPRC members meeting on 1/28 if anyone else plans to be. They won't respond to my emails and phone calls about what my dues are this year.

Conqueror,

Dues were increased to $144 this year, the first increase in several years, from what I hear.

Any reloaders in Chapel Hill/Hillsborough/Mebane?

I need to place a relatively small order with Powder Valley (which I think has the best prices), but was wondering if someone else nearby - either in Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, or Mebane or would like to split HazMat/shipping with me?

I might be up for that, let me check their website. When are you placing the order?

And yeah, DPRC went to 144 this year. I worked a couple times at the gun show booth though, so my dues were about 30% less.

I'd like to place the order sometime soon. I'm starting to reload .308 for a rifle I have on law-a-way at Mace (I want to make the ammunition before I pick it up). All I really need are some CCI BR Primers, but I'll probably pick up some Varget and maybe a pound of something else. But Powder Valley's prices are really quite good - the best I've found anyway. Certainly better than gun shows or a local store. It is, though, a wash after Hazmat and shipping (about $30 per order), but split two ways and you do pretty well. AND you get what you want, because reloading supplies are pretty scarce at Mace and other shops.

You know, DRPC really ought to have a user-friendly member forum where we could post these things. I'm sure we could find plenty of people who'd like to buy in bulk. Then we could split up 8 lb jugs of powder and 5000 cases of primers, etc.

That would be pretty wise. Maybe I'll bring it up the next time I'm at a meeting - not very often though. Do you go to meetings there?

I was looking for Makarovs, but there were none to be found :( But, I did get one of the tools needed to install the new handguard on my AR. There was a 9mm upper for $300 there (seemed like a good deal) if anyone wants to check it out.

That's a very good deal.

I ended up not going today; my girlfriend's grandmother died yesterday and she wanted some company today, so I stayed home to cheer her up a bit. I'll be going tomorrow afternoon. What are the show hours?

Hey, Youse Guys

I'm near Fayetteville, and have a big back yard with a private range of sorts. You're all welcome on weekends with some advance warning so we can put the dogs in the pen.

We have two gatherings annually at Camp Millstone near Rockingham(Ellerbe). Their range is open each weekend to the public-free. Our fall gathering is the third weekend in Oct. but it is RSVP this time due to renovations to the cabins. We may have to tent it. Hope many from here can make it this fall. We are having a non-shooting(state forest) campout July 4th weekend near Troy/Albemarle(Uwharrie mts). All events are family oriented. Lots of things discussed/practiced. It is a primitive outing--we will have a porta-potty. Again-RSVP. No charge but at the fall outing there will be a cabin charge and $20 per family for the weekend-cheap enough???, wc
