From mere eyeball and memory, that's a 5" 38cal Mk 12 found on carriers and some auxiliaries. The boxy bits on the LH side of the mount (right in the photo) are the fuze setters. Which had a grippy-bit that engages the various rings on a mechanical time fuze and spun it up to the desired setting.View attachment 1006886

That's the actual 1940-41 proposed way the Carbine was meant to be issued. Along with a singe two-magazine pouch on the Belt, Pistol, M-1936.
