Hello,

Strongly thinking of buying the Springfield XD 45 and had some random questions regarding it:

1. Does the slide stay locked to the rear after the last round has been fired? I was surprised to learn that some pistols do not do this...

2. I want to get the 4 inch barrel...is this an ok conceal carry pistol? I'll most likely wear it on my belt under a long shirt (since that's how I dress anyways).

3. I like the XD Gear system that comes with every XD, but how is the holster that comes with it? Should I go ahead and pick up another one while I'm there?

Thanks.

the slide does lock back after last round is gone

not sure on concealed carry of the 4 inch, as i have the 5 inch.

i would say get a real holster. its just a piece of plastic. it will work untill you get a good holster. i would of rather gotten another 13 round magazine, then a cheapo holster. the mag holder and mag loader are nice equipment though.

1. Yes, the slide does lock back on an empty magazine.

2. Yes, it's a good CCW weapon if you can conceal the longish grip.

3. You could get by with the XD gear holster for range work, but for carry would be better served with a higher quality holster.

1) yes the slide does lock back after the last rd unless of course your thumb accidentally releases the slide, like happened to me the first few magazines i put through my xd, for some reason i would rest my thumb right on the slide stop, and the slide would go foward on an empty chamber, but with a few minutes of practice, and changing up my hold it worked out great.

2)yes, i carry the 4" service model in .40 for my cold weather carry it does great. and it sounds like i dress the same way that you do.

3)the holster would be ok for the range, but I reccomend in investing in a nice leather, or kydex holster. i have quite a few for mine. blackhawk serpa holster, fobus roto holster which is okay for the range but not a good concealment holster. and a spectar thigh rig, which definetly ain't good for concealment!:) check out don hume they make fine holsters! i added some links below to help you out in finding a good holster! hope it helps!

i1. Yes
2. Yes
3. I'd not let freebies in any way factor into my decision if I was b/t the xd and something else. Make it all about the gun imo, ymmv/.

Excellent Choice!

1) Yes

2)I think the 4 inch conceals quite well. Do watch the grip though, it is pretty thick. Mine is a 13 shot mag and they are double stack mags.

3) For long term carry I would get another holster.

Have a good one!!

Get a real holster as listed. The slide on mine locks back as I would expect. Not sure about CCW, that is why I am getting the XD45 compact when I get back from SC!:D

Concealment depends on what I'm wearing, of course. It does fine if I wear loose clothing, but I got the SA Micro Compact for more 'normal' fitting clothes.
I'm sure a lot of folks have put more thought into concealing the bigger pistol than I have.

The holster. I don't know. My dog ate it. (Yeah, really :scrutiny: )
My Micro Compact came with one just like it, though made for the 1911, and
I really do like it. That has a lot to do with the pistol, though, as it's positioned just right for my leg to bend comfortably in the car, and holds the gun flat against my side. I considered getting another one for my XD, but I think I'll move up a notch and go ahead with a 'real' holster.
Also, I think it'd feel more *right* to get something in leather for the 1911.
