I've been lugging 2 range bags- one with all my shooting gear and the other with the spotting scope and sand bags for the bench rest. It's a bit much when I add the rifle cases and target backer, etc.

Most of the "regulars" seem to use roll around tool box totes. That seems the way to go to put all the heavy stuff in. Any particular version that anyone can recommend? I'm about to hit up lowes and see what they have.

I think I'm going to split my gear up too. I either shoot benchrest at the outdoor range (requiring all the heavy gear). Or I go to the indoor 25 yard range, for pistol and carbines. Maybe I should load out the small range bag just for the indoor range and keep all the major tools in the box. At the pistol range, I really only need sight adjustment tools.

That's what I'm leaning towards. My first step is to swap the 13 pound caldwell rock rest for a 2 pound vanguard tripod rifle rest, and swap the cast iron spotting scope stand for an aluminum tripod. That should eliminate one range bag. Maybe a small ammo bag so I'm not carrying ammo in the same heavy range bag. If that doesn't fix it, I'm off to home depot.

I've been carrying usually 2 rifle cases, and a 4 pistol case, along with my range bag, and the distance I walk is NOT just a hop, skip and jump from the car. I realized I had an old folding luggage dolly in the garage that is no longer being used, as all my luggage now has wheels, so I put it in the trunk. I haven't yet gone back to the range to try it out, but am sure it will suit my needs well. A few of the guys there use what is akin to a wheelbarrow to lug their stuff in.

I have one bag for my shotgun clay target shooting stuff, another strictly for rifle stuff (spotting scope, rest, etc., and a third that is primarily for pistol and .22/air rifle range time. I would also take it for rifle time as it has the better set of ear muffs and some misc small stuff you need to have with you. They all sit side by side on a shelf in the closet

2 flats of shells + 2 cases of clays + 2-4 shotguns + Range bag and shooting gear can get a bit heavy,,,

My solution wasn't really a 'normal shootin box' as some would envision,,,

I knew big wheels roll a lot easier than small wheels and Pneumatic tires roll easier than solid on slightly irregular surfaces,, gravel, etc,,,

Started out with one of these, which come in handy for a lot of different things: https://www.harborfreight.com/700-lbs-capacity-bigfoot-hand-truck-62900.html

Then I built / painted a simple 3 sided 'box' out of (IIRC) a half sheet of 1/2" plywood. Had an old wooden shelf I used for a 'end' (or floor when upright)

4 ft tall, About 6-8 inches wider than a case of clays. Almost as deep as a case,,, Open face, but has accommodations for attachment of bungee's on both sides.

Couple strips of wood added on the underneath side of the 'box' floor to keep it centered on the truck,,,

Rolls along easily using one hand with 'all the above' in it,,,, (Level ground)

Throw the box and truck (and almost everything else) in the back of my truck.

A little bit of work to load/unload it in and out of my truck, but simply no comparison when it comes to the ease at which I can now transport all that stuff to the throwers,,,

I reckon I could add shelves and 'doors' to it for pistol purposes, or perhaps make a smaller version, but not currently having any trouble getting 'pistol' stuff to the Range.

I like the 'rolling tool box' idea posted above. Seems like it might be good for less stuff' than what I mentioned above.

Had the same problem, went to Home Depot and bought a Dewalt
16 in. 4-in-1 Cantilever Tool Box cost $94 bucks but it has plenty of storage for chronographs and other gear plus it features a middle drawer that is perfect for ammo storage. More than happy with it.

Used my folding luggage dolly for all my crap on the last range trip, and it worked famously. Don't know why the hell I hadn't thought of that ages ago, but another useless garage hulk re-imagined. Still kind of a pack-rat though........
