Well, the shooting part made the project more work than fun. Ran three different pistols with I’m not even sure how many different loads, through both the RR and the one I built, all at 25 yards.

Lots of stuff to go through but this was the best group of the day. From an advantage arms upper using Aguila super extra, 10 shots under 1/2”.

JM, that is very impressive. Seeing a 1911 in a Ransom Rest makes me wonder just how many 1911's have rested in a RR over the years. Maybe more than any other gun.

I finally had some time to finish my homemade ransom rest inserts project, after feeding folks and doing the dishes, today.

I had already taken a Pachmayr grip off one of my super blackhawks and placed non hardening clay around the mouth, after rubbing the inside down well with dish soap, so I could pour plaster in it and get a core that mirrors the frame.

I had made some aluminum backup plates and machined a couple spacers so I could hold the plates 5/8” from either side of the core. Then I sanded the core to match the outside of the plates so there would be an opening for the pistol.

I then used tape to seal up the plates but left an opening on the bottom so I could pour in the polyurethane mixture.

After a couple hours I drilled out the holes and separated the halves.

Then washed them off, drilled out the roll pin holes and sanded both sides a bit.

Looks like they are going to do the job, will have to test them out later though, time for the next round of thanksgiving...

That type of mold/mount holding the frame will be very solid, eliminate ALL movement that could accour with holding onto grips. Well done.
