Rapper-actor Sticky Fingaz arrested on gun charge

    October 18, 2005, 7:45 PM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) _ The rapper-turned-actor known as "Sticky Fingaz" has been arrested on a charge that he left an unlicensed handgun in a Manhattan hotel room, police said.

The performer, whose given name is Kirk Jones, surrendered to police Tuesday morning and was awaiting arraignment on one count of criminal weapon possession.
Police said Jones had been staying at the Flatotel, a luxury hotel a few blocks from Times Square, and left a 9mm pistol behind when he checked out on Monday.

Hotel staff discovered the weapon and called police. Jones, who became famous as a member of he rap group Onyx, was subsequently identified as the room's last occupant.

Jones, 35, and originally from Queens, was not licensed to carry the weapon, said police detective Kevin Czartoryski.

Jones was in custody Tuesday evening. He is appearing in an FX network television show called "Over There," about American soldiers in Iraq. He plays a character named "Smoke," who enlists in the Army to avoid a prison sentence.

A publicist for the FX network said he was unaware of the arrest and referred calls to Jones' manager, Brian Wilkins, who said he had no information about the incident. Jones' agent, Michael Greenwald, did not immediately return a phone message.

No American citizen should ever need a government license to keep and bear arms.

I don't care for his character on Over There. I didn't know who he was until I read this thread.

Sometimes these guys try to get a minor weapons charge or two to boost sales by increasing their street 'cred.

That said, NYC is a fascist state. I cared about it for about a week after 9/11, but it wore off.

Well, it is wrong to improperly store a pistol like that.

Ironic, eh, he's in trouble for possession, but the problem is actually his lack thereof.

Way beyond dumb to leave one's sidarm laying about like that - obviously forgotten.

But he should get a ticket for being stupid maybe. Not for simple ownership - not even possesion as pointed out above. Had they found it in a hotel room in the US - the hotel staff probably would have gotten in touch with him rather than the law.

Let me sum up some of the comments in this thread: People who like rap are stupid, so they shouldn't own guns.

COME ON PEOPLE, since when did rights require liking a certain type of music? And whether you like it or not*, rap/hip hop culture is a HUGE part of black culture and urban culture in general. The reason why gun laws were started were to prevent these demographics from owning guns. Unregistered? WHO CARES. If you believe truly and deeply that gun ownership is a natural right, why does it bother you if some "gangsta" owns guns?

*and I know you don't know this because lately it has been evident that many THR members are more in tune with different varieties of tinfoil rather than elements of American culture.

so far there is one big difference, this guy is from NY (queens being part of NYC proper also)

so his possesion may have more violations than crosby.

seems quite possible this is an illegal gun
