Does RCBS, or anyone else, make PTX expanders, that can replace the Hornady PTX expanders? If so, where might I purchase them from? Thanks.

RCBS makes a couple. With careful adjustment they can be used with the Hornady.

I'm guessing you're trying to load cast bullets and find the Hornady products less than satisfactory?

Here is one option for use with the Hornady L-N-L powder measure. A number of folks here use it and like it.

The RCBS case activate powder measure system is a license built version of the Hornady (or maybe it is the other way around). In any case, pieces/parts in the powder drop area are kind of interchangeable with adjustments. I use a Uniflow powder measure in a Hornady powder drop die with my own, home made PTX dies.

Here is RCBS 38 caliber expander but they do make other ones.

It is inexpensive enough that a test would not be out of the question. My main concern would be that the step on the RCBS tube matches with the stop ring at the bottom of the Hornady powder drop die.

powderfunnels.com, the maker of that piece has been out of business for at least three years. It's a flaring tool. I have one. Much different than a Lyman M die or the Hornady PTX.

I have both the Hornady PTX parts and the RCBS. They are different parts...totally different parts. Different lengths, different design.

I have the RCBS .38 and the .44 parts and have the same parts in the Hornady. The RCBS parts are MUCH longer than the Hornady parts. This can cause a linkage part on the Hornady powder measure to fail. I've bent two of them so far.

The best stand alone expander I've found so far is a Lee Universal expander die, which is a case flaring die, with the NOE expander inserts installed. Second is the Lyman M die. The Dillon powder funnels actually do a really decent job too. There's a guy on eBay that makes a better powder funnel for the Dillons. I have a couple of those and they rock.

I have Hornady ptx expanders for 9mm and 38/357. I load cast coated bullets in 38/357. The ptx goes from .355 to .360 and have zero issues.

You have the newer PTX. The original PTX parts didn't have the step. I purchased all my PTX parts when they first came out. They work great for loading jacketed bullets. Not so well with cast. I have a new 9mm PTX coming today, I'm going to compare it to my old one.

After reading the replies to my post, and many other threads, I think I'm all right with what I have. It took awhile, but I think I have a handle on using them and the function of the PTX Expander Stop. If not, "I'll be back."

@Cannibul for posting powderfunnels.com is out of business. Thanks for all the replies.

When I first tried loading lead coated bullets I knew really nothing about them and had lots of help on THR. Tried cowboy dies and M die but had to resize the bullets with a Lee sizer die.
Even after sizing down to .358ish none of those other expander dies work as well as the Hornady PTX ones that I have.
With the others there is always a little coating or lead left on shell plate but with the PTX there is none.

From what I've heard the C-Bar part is very rough compared to the Powder Funnel part.

IMHO neither one is a expander but is a flaring tool. There's a big difference to me. An expander will expand down into the brass to make seating cast bullets easier. A flaring tool just flares the case mouth.
