RCBS swager & hornady classic press

I have about 3-4k .223 shells I need to take the the primer crimp off of. I am looking at getting the RCBS primer pocket swager combo but I'm not absolutely positive it works with my Hornady Classic press. Can anyone confirm this or offer another solution?

I think I would rather swage than ream and remove material- risking taking too much off and having loose pockets.

Am I looking at this right? Set me straight if not. I'm a noob - used to help my dad when younger and might be tainted by his biases.

The RCBS Swager works in any press with the standard 7/8x14 thread. I use it in a Rock Chucker, and occasionally in a Herter's U3. If you haven't bought one yet, consider the Dillon Super Swage 600 - I have the RCBS, and it is o.k. if a little finicky (if you get one, PM me for some tips), but looking through my retrospectoscope, I would buy the Dillon if I didn't already have the other. The Dillon is easier to set up and run, pretty much bullet proof, and if I were looking at 3-4 thousand cases, I would most definitely spring for it ($96.50 vs $45 for the RCBS combo). I've processed cases with pocket knives, countersinks, little hand tools, the RCBS, and believe me, the Dillon trumps them all. I am not a Dillo-phile, just someone who has tried multiple methods & judges the Dillon superior.

The RCBS will work fine on the Hornady or any other std single stage for that matter.

That said, spring for the Dillon Super Swage - it's not even a close decision for anything over a thousand. You can rent it out to friends to make the cost back - but even if you don't, you'll definitely think it's worth the price of admission. I did 500 on the RCBS swage and then went and borrowed a friend's Dillon - what a difference!

I have both and I found if I have everything set to go I can swag 15 to 16 .308 cases per minute with the Dillon. Someone posted a link to a video U-tube showing how easy it is to use this tool when it is properly adjusted. If I was looking at doing a handful then the RCBs would be fine but for thousands of rounds you will find it is money well spent getting the Dillon.

+1. I'm not a "Dillo-phile" either (I'm too cheap to be one) but the Dillon super-swage is simple, efficient and f.a.s.t. My father-in-law and shooting partner bought one, and I swaged 2000 .223 cases in 2 hours or so. It took me a minute or two to get my rhythm, but then I just burned through the pile of brass I had.

If Jim didn't have one I could use whenever I wanted, I'd cough up the money and buy my own, and like I said, I'm a cheapskate
