Reaching out to immigrants

I (sometimes) work for the city of San Francisco.
What this means is often I am the only guy at work
who grew up speaking American English, it also means
I am also the only guy at work who has even a rudimentary
understanding of American history.
Everyone at my job is voting for Davis,thinks guns cause crimes,loves Bill
Clinton. (even the armed security)
I end up with headaches,have lots of arguments.
The other day my co-worker was getting angry at me for
supporting McClintock my co-worker says the Repubs are responsible for...oh I don't know ..EVERYTHING wrong in the WHOLE WORLD.
Of course the subject of guns come up,and I found out
he was TAUGHT that the whole purpose of owning guns was "people needed to hunt in the 18th century" he was taught that as he was becoming a citizen.
He was SHOCKED when I told him we have guns so we can get rid of
tyranny.
We need to get people like him away from the anti's
we need to put out position papers in all the myriad tounges
spoken.
At least Spanish/Chinese versions of the Bill of Rights.
These people come here willing to work for a better life
And get brainwashed by a liberal media that says
Conservatives wish to impede them.
They vote Dem and anti gun because thats what they have
back home in Red China and elsewhere & they are used to big bureaucracies,not seeming to realize thats why there is no freedom
back home,not realizing they are destroying the liberty they came here for.
We need to get them on our side ....but how?

From my experience, your coworker was the exception to the rule. Every single foreign-born citizen, and all the legal immigrants I know (myself included) are gun owners and members of at least one pro-gun organization like the NRA or JPFO. You don't fully know how much freedom you still have in this country unless you've lived somewhere else for a while. I breathe a sigh of relief every time I return from a vacation in Germany, and the plane touches down on American soil...

I don't think so; immigrants shouldn't have the pre-concieved notions that existing citizens of those two states will have. They should (I would think) be open to new ideas of freedom and the bill of rights.

In my limited experience the immigrants that have become US citizens tend to very patriotic in regards to their new country and seem to want to exercise their new freedoms vigorously. Example: when I was still in the business, we'd have the local INS officers in to qualify every year and a majority of them were immigrants with US citizenship. And they tended to be the harshest in their dealings with illegal immigrants, it was almost a point of pride with them that since they had gone through all the requirments to become citizens, the illegals were like a slap in the face to that whole process and their new country that they have sworn allegiance to.

Sorry, but you are just plain wrong!

Any look at voter demographics, polls, studies, will reveal that immigrants tend to vote to the left, usually the extreme left. They want guns banned, social services (and taxes) increased, larger government, etc, etc. They want the government to "give them stuff" because they are "minorities".

People like yourself are exceptions to the rule - you value your freedoms and likely tend to associate with others who have the same outlook. That is not the case with the vast majority of new immigrants.

Marko, I have to agree with Keith with one exception. It has been my personal experience with many professionals (mostly engineers) from former Communist Bloc countries that they tend to lean to the right.

Seems that people who grew up under real Commie oppression with real JBT's get what the US is all about and what we have to offer.

Unfortunately, legal immigrants are a very small number in comparison to the floods of illegal aliens our nation is awash in.

I know that most Cubans vote republican. I also know that the hundreds of thousands who came as a result of Castro have nothing but the greatest appreciation for the United States, and are ever grateful to the American people for taking us in and for the great opportunities. I also know that the majority of the second generation (born here) know the greatness and value of the USA.

I can tell you this:
If you had freedom, and then you loose it, and you are imprisoned in the course of fighting to regain freedom for your country, and then you escape and to come to the USA, you end up becoming the most ardent US citizen imaginable. And when we see people like Clinton, et al, who ‘seem’ to take the country for granted, and use it for their own agenda, and talk down its military and all the principles that made the USA the great country it is and which clearly differentiates it from just about every other country in the planet, we become enraged.

I can also tell you this also:
If it weren’t for a few radio and TV programs, and for if it weren’t for my daily dose of THR (read: all of you!), I would go insane.

That’s having been said, and just as a secondary pet peeve, I believe that everyone who lives and works here should be expected to learn all the customs – including speaking ENGLISH! I raised my two sons bilingual (one a USAF Captain, the other an Army CW3 BlackHawk pilot), and it serves them well; but I don’t believe we should ‘have’ to teach any other language in schools as the primary language – No! English is it. Learn it - Period. Want to learn another language for extra credit and education, fine; but to get along in the USA, sorry, but only ENGLISH will do.

says straight out:
"the second amendment protects our right to bear arms, yes?"
BTW the text said that the 2A is regarding state militias, not individual arms
