My wife grew up on a farm and shot a lot growing up to keep birds from eating the crops and is a good shot. Actually better than me. She believe in firearms and on occasion will go shooting with me. She is also supportive of my firearms hobby. All,in all a fantastic woman and part of the reason I married her.

I wanted her to take an extensive defensive firearms class she has resisted. Recently, I started reading the 299 Days book (enjoyable). She picked it up and started reading it. She's been asking some questions about what weapons. I bought up training again and she has said yes.

In 2016 we will take the 5 day Gunsite pistol 250 and then later a two man tactics class. Now I just need to find a nice semi romantic place to stay near Gunsite.

If you are looking for a way to nudge your significant other to join you in a class, this book might be worth trying. It wasn't my intention, I just wanted to read it. I'm not completely sure why this, worked. As best I can tell, without spoiling the book, the wife in the book isn't into guns or stockpiling some food and water. This forces the husband to do it sneakily so he can protect his family. Maybe that resonates with my wife a bit and helps her understand why I want her to get some training.

sedona if you can afford it. red rock country and oak creek canyon is the best in that neighborhood.

a bed and breakfast or motel in prescott is closer. the sharlot hall museum on gurley street is worth seeing if you have any spare time. lots of shops and restaurants downtown. about twenty miles from paulden (gunsites).

Sheepdog,
Sedona is nice, so is Prescott, Prescott Valley is closest though. For romantic it's a little harder. Personally I would try a B&B after looking at the internet. We have lived in Prescott Valley since we retired close to 15 years ago. Just two things to mention:
1 This is to a large degree a retirement area and you will see military colors
on about 2/3 of the males in the area, everything from WWII on.
2 From where I live in Prescott Valley there are more than 20 active gun
stores within 25 miles

Dining out here can be both hearty and inexpensive. Lastly less than an hours drive you can get to Jerome which started life as a copper mining town. Jerome is hung on the side of a mountain and the drive in and out is spectacular all by itself. Small romantic shops all up and down it's main street.
