Really, Really, Really Stupid Question!

Hey Everyone-
Looking to pick up another handgun. This might be a really stupid question, but I will do my best to break it down.

Here are my choices, I have plenty of handguns, rifles, etc. Looking for something more fun-but also reliable and something that will function given the circumstance.

Some kind of 1911/45acp. Had the Springfield GI, a decent gun gun, had a few feed issues, nothing flashy but overall a plain jain 1911. Problem was being left handed, I would have to upgrade-not a problem, but ended up selling it.

Desert Eagle .357-overall a great conversional piece. I understand that it will function with hotter loads, not a problem. Something fun at the range and I would think not a bad piece for home defense.

PTR-91-.308 a somewhat decent battle piece. Seems to function better than the CETME-however, I have an AK that has performed flawlessly. Do I need a .308? Yes and No. Never can have to many guns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, I was leaning towards the DE, however is it worth the $1000 bucks?

I had my issues with the .45, should I pick up another?

The PTR-91, I really like it, but I also want another handgun.

Thats the problem with the vast array of firearms, to many choices. I like a three, I would pick up all three if I could afford it(but the wife would kill me).

What would your choice be and why?

If you want a fun gun, try an S&W Model 17/617 revolver. .22 caliber, cheap to shoot, low recoil and noise, kills tin cans and other targets of opportunity.

Not good if you want to pretend to be a gung ho action figure taking on zombies with your .499 caliber blastenboomer earsplitter wristbreaker.

Check out the new STI G6 in 9mm, I think the name is correct. Its very friendly for a lefty, and its a well designed good handling gun.

If you want a real fun pistol for range and plinking use, I would recommend the Kel-Tec PLR-16 (I would also second the .22LR revolver choice as well). It is a real blast to shoot and always puts a smile on my face while I'm shooting it. It is fairly large for a pistol (basically an AR15 pistol knock off (takes regular M16/AR15 mags), good price compared to actual AR15 pistols). I know .223 isn't as cheap as it used to be a few years ago (of course what ammo hasn't gone up in the last few years), but it is still cheaper than .308. The only thing is I would not use/recommend it for home defense. It is waaayyyy too loud for indoor use (IMHO). Here is a pic of my PLR-16 with some goodies added to it:

nearly 30 years ago I got to a place where I had modern brass shootin irons, semi auto 1911 types, Beretta, and others in .22 to .45..

Same deal in long guns.. A mess of side by side 12's, pump 12s AND a 16.

Rifles in 8mm, 30-06, 30-30, 6.5 x 54 MS, and others including a bunch of .22s from single shot bolt to tube feed, to rotary magazines..

So what else was going to be any more fun?

With the kinda dough you are talking about you coulf get a pretty nice not store bought, close to really historicaly accurate semi custom kentucky long rifle, which is a hoot to own, feel in your hands and shoot.

Mine is lefty off set stock, has a Getze Swamped barrel with a silver ft sight, and a nice little lock with rollers, holding the frizzen down on a water proof pan. The inside lockwork is not only super functional, but it is pretty.

Wood to metal fit is excellent for what it is.. Nothing Cabelas or other stores like that store have anything like it.

Since then there have been others as well, and even 2 cap and ball 6 shooters.. These don't spit out lead one round after another like a semi auto does, but these to me any way are 100 times more fun.

I still have almost all the more modern guns and not to very long ago, as measured by an old geezer I picked up a Kimber.. That is a pretty gun too, but still it isn't as much fun.

My next little adventure is going to be with 1/4 size cannon... That is a real casting of a 1750's swivel gun.. The barrel alone weighs 46 pounds, and is 26 inches long, the bore apx 7/8th's .

Do you suppose I can fire this from the hip?

STI sells some very nice lefties. You can pick by price and caliber. Great triggers and a number of options on sights and accessories.

For fun and giggles it's hard to beat the big bore revolver with the sheet of flame it pushes out the sides. A .357 or .44 Mag in whatever style you like be it cowboy style single action or a very effective S&W double action. Far less to go wrong in an emergency and makes a nice big BANG/FLASH at the range.

Or look at leftie version 1911's. These are a classic that you can't go wrong with as long as you stick to one with a decent rep or are willing to buy used and then swap any problematic internals from the very comprehensive aftermarket.

I'm guessing that the range giggles is the big reason for your choice. If it was primarily home defense then any number of generic and ho-hum .40 caliber semi auto options would do the job and be totally reliable at the range to boot.
