Really stupid anti-gun article

I am not even sure what the author's point was. What I can come up with is "Don't become a musician, you will committ suicide."

Seriously that is a bunch of drivel.

You know, I think more people die because of drugs than because law-abiding citizens have access to guns. Why not just outlaw drugs?

Oh, wait....

I GET IT!

A firearm is a very effective tool for committing suicide and murder.

How'd I do?

From the article:
Rap songs are allegedly glorifying guns. What evidence is there of the effect such lyrics have? Perhaps the fate of some of the American rap stars offers a clue. The rap star Scott La Rock was killed in a gangland shoot-out on a New York Street on August 25, 1987, shortly after the release of his debut album "Criminal Minded."

Don't forget rap songs glorify rape and murder, too.

Maybe we should outlaw rap songs and the rappers who rap them

:D

I just read that article. What a load of crap, showing a strong anti-American bias and very poor fact checking. Kurt Cobain killed himself in 1994, not 1995 for example.

How INCREDIBLY RETARDED. :barf:

Where the hell do people come up with this stuff?
Ironically, it was John Lennon who wrote the number "Happiness Is a Warm Gun," featured on the Beatles' White Album. Beatles recording manager George Martin had shown John the cover of an American gun magazine that had the caption "Happiness is a warm gun in your hand." John thought it was an outrageous title. "A warm gun means you've just shot something," he said.

Yeah, let's listen to an uber-socialist talk about guns.
I'LL tell you what I think of "Happiness is a warm gun" -- Ever strapped on a gun that's been sitting in the cold all night? It's FREEZING. Wearing a gun in the winter (in my case, while camping) makes the gun very warm... there is just no better feeling that having a warm mass of metal behind your hip when it's cold outside.

John Freaking Lennon.

You'll realize that the actions of people is never called into question, it's the gun that made them do it. It's kinda wierd, my gun has never made me shoot landlords, rob babies of their candy, or have strong urges to commit suicide. I must be doing something wrong. :scrutiny:

We only have to look to America to learn of the dangers of guns in a society.

We only have to look to England to learn of the dangers of having NO guns in society. :scrutiny: Some people have no hope.

It just gets on my nerves whenever they mention suicides--like, "oh, man, if we took away all the guns, then these people wouldn't have killed themselves!"

Yeah, right.

Just what I was going to say, Treylis...Does this dingbat actually think that if the people mentioned couldn't get a gun, they would still be alive today? And what about all of the ones mentioned that were killed by eeeevil guns during drug deals? I wonder if it ever occurred to him that drug dealers would probably have killed them some other way if they didn't have guns?

This article isn't even worth the bits it cost on the server......

I like the part "Nobody is safe around a gun". How about nobody is safe around a empty mind and loded chamber. I am also sure that it was the gun's fault that it chambered a round while playing russan roulette.:banghead:

Oh, so we should glorify rock stars instead who piss on the alamo, promote sexually loose lifestyles and bite the heads off of birds?

There's rock. There's rap. There's pop.
They all promote morally wrong messages in one way or another, so get used to it. Or listen to Tchaikovsky:D.
Rite of Spring anyone?

Lol wouldn't .20 gauge be just 1 big five pound pellet ? I'd like to see the size of the shell for that thing.

He was playing Russian roulette backstage at a concert in Houston, Texas. Hoping to impress a girl, he accidentally shot himself.

That one's my favorite also... :D

Some of these people should be Darwin Award winners for sure.

he was married to singer Courtney Love
Hey, common Erik, we all know she's a catch...

I too would commit suicide if I were married to Courtney Love.

You're right......this article is ridiculous. I can't believe I lost that much time of my life reading it.

These days, however, with gun battles on the streets of London and the proliferation of gangs battling for control of drug trade and prostitution, London has allegedly become a city that is proportionately riddled with even more violent crime than New York.

Gee, at least he was nice enough to point out that gun control doesn't work. Very sorry, but I tend to avoid places with a higher crime rate than NYC.

It's not just about crime though. Citizens own weapons, slaves do not. That simple. Police legally do not have to protect individual citizens, and I can understand the reasoning behind that. So, until the cops can respond in under 30 seconds and have liability for every single person, I'll be keeping my SAR-1. I think it'll be around for a wee bit of time.

Daniel T:

I thought it was funny too, that the article talked about Cobain. Having been a big Nirvana fan for years, I too think there is more to it than the public so willingly accepts. Courtney Love is a very strange person, and I would definitely not put it past her to have had something to do with his "suicide". He had his own problems, but I don't know about suicide...

I was about to email that jackass until I saw the article was almost a year old! Incredible how he cannot connect the dots between gun control and the ever-increasing gun crime, yet seems to "connect" other things that make no sense at all, like mentally ill people killing themselves but placing blame on the gun that was used. Idiot.

He was playing Russian roulette backstage at a concert in Houston, Texas. Hoping to impress a girl, he accidentally shot himself.

Okay, let's review:
* He knew the gun was loaded.
* Knowing same, he willingly put it to his head.
* Knowing that it was pointed at his head and partially loaded, he deliberately and of his own free will pulled the trigger.

Where the f**k does "accidentally" come in to play?

Nobody's safe around guns? Glad I'm a nobody.

Semi-seriously, I'd love to have someone like that come into my house and make a statement like that. It'd be fun to watch that brown puddle develop as I tell them they are in close proximity to several guns. T'would be worth the cost of cleaning the furniture.
