Reason For A Duplicate

Walther is really trying to push those M2s out the door. I am sure you could find another one that has had the recall work done for around $300 for her. If not, you could look harder for a M1. Harder to find but would likely use the same holster as whatever she was using for the M2.

Have you ever had to switch between them when it was really important?

My life has never been threatened by a bad guy and I have never had to shoot anyone. My primary line of defense is to stay out of situations where I might have to pull a gun and shoot to protect myself and family. I am confident that I can draw any of my carry guns and put holes in a bad guy without fidgeting.

The manual of arms on all my carry guns are very similar. There is no manual safety so the procedure is Draw, point, pull. If I could not do this with a hand gun I own I would not carry it. On my little NAA .22's the procedure is Draw, cock, point, pull... I have shot my little 22's enough that the cocking just comes naturally. I learned to shoot with my Beretta 92 INOX... I have not had to pull the safety on my Beretta to off in many, many years... I draw my Beretta and the safety comes off automatically thanks to my thumb without ever thinking about it... but my Beretta is too big for me to carry anyway.

I am not a cop or Swat member or in the military or a vigalanty. My goal in a situation is to get myself and my loved ones out of danger if danger is present. If I were a Swat team member where my job is to seek out and engage the bad guy I would train in a completely different manner. I am a civilian and my MO is to defend and retreat... not seek and engage. I do not believe in vigilantism.

You're minding your own business and all of a sudden somebody starts gunfight at the end of your parking lot.

Have you ever had to be a multi-purpose tool using human under those conditions?

1) I stay away from places where I am minding my own business and someone starts a gunfight at the end of the parking lot.
2) I am not a person that starts fights or provoke others by nature. Life is a lot safer this way!
3) If this were to happen I would pull my gun and dive for the nearest protective cover. I would then start looking for a safe path of retreat without exposing myself to any undue danger. If the gun man advanced on me and I had no where to retreat I would fire.

I have several sets of duplicates. Four examples of two different model rifles and three different models of pistols and seven examples.

My duplicates tend of be a little different from each other though. Different finish, different sights, slightly different controls (extended slide stops and different mag releases) and maybe different grips. Something to set them apart even though I wanted some sort of commonality (to take advantage of using the same mags, parts, holsters and ammo).

They still have that same feel.

This might be a great time to look into an inexpensive carry gun, like an old Makarov.

This is why everyone should have a snubby revolver. They have been the backup of choice for quite some time now.

My first Sig P228 is pristine or near-pristine, stored in a plastic bag a bit soaked with CLP. Bought it a year ago, shot twice.
Bought the second P228 (also a 1994) for carry. I very seldom carry the slightly slimmer single-stack Sig P6 (2001). For a while searched on Armslist for a really used P6 or 'true' German P225 (because the other is in such excellent condition).

For variety acquired a CA 75D 'PCR'. Even better ergos.

Does ownership of four imported AKs also count?

Buy what you want. No, really. this is America. It is not a question of whether you need it. Hopefully, you never "need" a firearm. And if you are a cop or security, having a duplicate of your EDC is s a good idea.

Some people buy lots of shoes. Some people spend their money on wine, women and song.

Just be careful about guns that are close but not he same. For example, a compact 1911. Grabbing compact magazines when you are carrying a full size 1911 sucks.

But for your wife, she may not want another PPS. She may want something else.

I dont have anything except my EDC (G26) and fullsize pistols, which aren't really conducive to purse carry.

Give her the 26 and suck it up for the full sized ones?

Never wanted exact duplicates. Always lived by the Ive got dozens more that could be used mantra.

As I see it, there are two reasons for selecting a particular gun.

1) I don't have one; one would be cool.

2) I already have one; another one would be cool.

I started a thread here several years back asking members to which gun they'd switch if their primary EDC (which I asked them to identify) went out of service, for example, it was seized after a defensive-gun usage incident. Many respondents simply said they'd "pull out their other one."
This would be me ... For CCW I've got a Hi-Standard 22 mag derringer, Colt mustang, Glock 43, Glock 19, Beretta minx, M70-32S&W, M70-22LR, M71, 21A, American Dreeinger in 22 & 22mag, Russian Makarov, SiG C3, Colt Lord & Lady, S&W Body Guard ... and it seems like a couple others but I'm too lazy to go look o_O

All that to say, I've always rolled my eyes when I've heard folks say they have more than one of the same carry piece. Not anymore. We're going this weekend to look for a duplicate or very similar of her gun for her, and starting now I'm on the lookout for a backup G26 to my EDC G26.
Funny you should mention the 26. It's the only gun I own that I've said on here probably a dozen times, I considered getting a duplicate of, and getting a left hand kydex holster, just to at times carry two primaries. As it stands, if I was out my primary UCDP, I wouldn't hesitate to carry either of my other carries, the 26, which is my night biking and trail gun, or my woods carry, the G29. I am proficient in all. Alternate to any of those for whatever reason may come along would be a HKUSP45C, which was supplanted by the UCDP, and is in it's shadow.

Now that i have two young boys I’m shooting for triples of my best guns... one for each of the boys and one left for me of course.
Namely, everyone gets a Winchester 30-30, a ruger single six, a s&w m&p, and builds their own ar-15.
