Reasons we find to not buy some firearms, not to include brand

I will not buy any handgun that has a poly frame or a trigger I do not like.

I will not buy one that is striker fired. When holstering, I like being able to secure the hammer with my thumb as a safety precaution.

Agree with several who have posted a dislike of artwork on guns and will expand to color schemes such as rainbow or neon. Nor am I a fan of engraving, except for on a double bbl shotgun where it can be a beautiful thing when paired with a fine walnut stock.

Not a fan of mannlicher stocks, either. But I own one. A dear friend I met on another forum developed lung cancer this time last year. He passed away days before Christmas, but not before having his wife send me his favorite rifle: a TALO exclusive stainless 10/22 with a mannlicher stock. Though we communicated almost daily by email we lived on opposite sides of the country and had never met in person. Yet, he thought enough of our friendship to send me this rifle. I shoot it often in his honor and the mannlicher stock- at least this one in particular- has grown on me.

Another fan of polished stainless steel!

Matte stainless steel just looks to be still in need of some sort of polishing; kind of like a diamond in the rough.

I always said the same. I prefer polished. My 460 just looks swirled and in need of polishing.

Guns that are labeled by a certain company but in reality it's just a licensed clone. IE most of the Umarex stuff. I wanted a Beretta Arx in 22lr but lost interest when I learned it was just a copy made by Umarex

Same for many guns. I hate a rebadge or a clone. When sig first released the mosquito there was no indication of gsg making the gun. The box said "proudly made by sig gmbh".

The Taurus 92 I allow. Since they were very forthcoming about the situation and that they were using the old tooling.

I also hate a rail on a Beretta 92/96, sig p22x, or 1911.

And a safety on a revolver.

I swore off locks on Smith revolvers until the 460 released. No "prelock" 460. After a few thousand rounds of 460 I decided that the lock was acceptable and have bought a few since. Ive had late model smiths fail, but never anything to do with the lock. Given a gun like a 29 that was made pre and post lock, I'll choose preload every time. Just because fit finish and quality was better IMO. But the lock is no issue for me. Even in my 44 mag up to 500 heavy recoilers

It's silly I know, but I will not consider anything in 6.5 CM.

I won't either. 6.5C fanboys ruined the cartridge for me. Plus I have no need to shoot that far when hunting in Alabama. Woods are so thick most shots are under 100 yards. But I did just get a 30-06. My reasoning doesn't have to make sense to anyone else.
I decided that I'd never own a rifle used by our enemies to shoot at me.

I roll Turkey into my list of countries not to get firearms from. Closest I ever got to a bad guy weapon was a Tokarev copy, probably built in the Khyber pass, that the owner no longer needed. Got confiscated and probably on some POGs desk.

My disqualifying factor is simple, if it won't improve my scores or my self defense, I don't want it.

I don't want anything whose first selling point is "good customer service." That tells me they are willing to sell defective merchandise and try to make you think they are doing you a favor by fixing it.

There are several reasons why I will pass on a firearm. I am not a fan of S&W revolvers with the lock. I pass on those. Caliber was and to a certain degree something that will cause my to not buy a firearm. Prior to reloading I would only buy firearms in caliber s that were common and ammo is easy to find. Now that I reload calibers that I find acceptable but there are still some calibers that I just won’t buy.

I won't buy a gun manufactured in a country that is not friendly to us as I'm not funding our enemies. I also shy away from guns with names that are over the top tactical or aggressive. I won't embarrass myself pretending to be "Tactical Tom" and if a gun has a name like Executioner or similar nonsense I'll take a pass.

well, the taticool gear has zero appeal to me. No punisher skulls or any of the testosterone infused silliness .I still do not own a AR .I just have no love for the "platform" . I know I ought to have one(or two or more) Because people in the District of Corruption say I should not have one. I ought to get myself an AK and an AR just because , but the budget doesn't allow for them yet. I've got firearms with similar capabilities so im not in a hurry

A "Henry" product.

Zamak anywhere.

Tube loading on anything other than rimfire rifles.

Levers I cannot get my hands into.

Tacticool and modern sporting rifles. I have one and one is plenty, so after one, never one again.

And I am not much fond of rebounding hammers and transfer bars in particular on a rifle.

Each to their own preferences. If you like it then that is all that matters.

This is an interesting thread. Some of you pointed out things I dislike that I wouldn't have thought about (Mannlicher Stocks). Others like things I wouldn't want like a polished stainless finish on a firearm. I wouldn't want a gun that might reflect the sun into my eyes and blind me when I needed to use it. There is a bonus to a matte stainless finish that if it gets scratched you can blend it in with a scotchbrite pad.
When Ruger released the SR series I would have bought one if it hadn't had the magazine safety.
When you get right down to it I guess most of it comes down to a combination of whether or not I think it will be useful & what I can afford.

My biggest reason is MY SAFE IS FULL! I don't like to sell them once I have'm.

I wouldn't buy an AR with a collapsible stock, hate how rickety they feel.

I don't like plastic stocks on rifles give me wood anyway (yes I have a few that I love).

When I first read the title to this thread, I had a pat response: I am getting old, I don't shoot all the ones I have enough and I don't really need to buy more that my wife will have to dispose of when I am gone.

As I read through all the threads, I am tempted to try and answer the questions as asked.

Okay, that said:

--No S&W revolvers with ILS. I have two that I have disabled and PLUGged, too may nice pre-lock S&Ws out there.
--No AKs or other "enemy" weapons for me. Shot a few, helped a friend dispose of a few; for me, no interest. But I do own a Mini-30 and an x39 AR. Some may see that as hypocritical...see it as you will.
--As far as Glocks and anything with a trigger dingus, painful for my mangled trigger finger (long story, long ago). If you like them, more power to you.

In general, refer to the "I'm getting old, don't really need any more..." response above.

When I buy a gun I avoid those that are plastic framed, striker fired, or have the squared-off (Glock style) trigger guard. I do make exceptions, such as the plastic Kel Tec P32.

Not really all that interested in anything made out of Zamak.

No weaponry from WWII that emanated from Germany, Italy, and Japan.

Don't care about any gun chambered for .40 S&W, .454 Casull, .460 S&W, and .500 S&W,.

One of the larger shops near me is constantly getting in hydro dipped handguns. About at least 50% I'd say, he lists 5 hydro dipped striker fired polymer handguns for every 10. I hate the flames, I hate the wild pinks and purples, American flags, Molon, skulls, barbed wire, etc.... he is selling the heck out of em too.. I have yet to see one turn up at the range though. I feel that it's worthless trashy bling. But if I'm being honest, if I went in and my daughter really had her heart set on a purple gun I'd get it for her.

I wouldn't let someone give me one that's been disrespected to that extent. To each their own though.

The other thing I find extremely distasteful is, and don't get me wrong because I am on a budget but there are lines I don't cross, but an AR with 16 different accessories and attachments with a collective value of $22. Amazon sells all kinds of China crap that isn't fit for an airsoft spider sniper.

A couple years ago I sought out and purchased a Remington R51. I've come to accept that whatever my current prejudices, I'll buy darn near anything that strikes my fancy.

1. Most pistols with the equivalent of an arched MSH won't fit my hand, so I won't buy 'em. I need a flat backstrap on my grip.
2. I refuse to buy anything with locks.
3. Polymer is OK, but I shouldn't be able to squeeze it and feel it give.

Trigger dingus, I hate them, rifle or handgun.

I prefer to be able to see my sights which leaves out any shiny handgun. They are OK on a cloudy day but impossible to use in our intense sunlight. I do own 2 though but they wear a black stripe of Rustoleum rust reformer paint on top to kill the glare. This is the dullest finish black paint I have found. If not for the paint they are pretty much worthless other than to look at.

Looks. Some guns are like Marie Lavou, the witch in an old Bobby Bare song. "You're too damn ugly for me".

Glock anything. My hand and their grip design are not compatable.
