This not to discuss whether you like CCW national reciprocity. The topic is if it passes (who know?) what would be the gun that would pass legally into all states and the mags that could go with it. It's isn't that you can take your Glock 17 with 17 mags and just drive through the 50 states. This is similar to threads on what rifles could you drive through all states legally.

I would opine that for sure, something like a SW Model 66 or 19 would pass. I'd because of my likes would probably try my SW 632 - 327 mag, 6 shot J frame. Would my Glock 26 make it?

Thoughts, what would and what would be your optimal choice given a 50 state tour?

I'm not aware of any state where semi-auto's holding 10 rounds would be illegal. I see no reason a G26 would be a problem as long as you don't possess larger mags.

But at this point it's really hard to speculate. In order for there to be reciprocity a lot of other changes have to take place. If a law is passed forcing reciprocity on all states then the laws on magazine and ammo restrictions would probably have to be consistent among all states.

I don't see that happening. The Supreme court has made it clear than states CAN ban certain things.

My fear with national reciprocity is that it will be easier to be more restrictive in free states than it will be to go less restrictive in the less friendly states.

Here, VT, anyone can carry, there is no CCW, what does that do for us I wonder. An S&W 2.5 inch 357 Mag with158g SWC for MD and NJ, and JHP for the other states ought to do it. That said I will be carrying a 1911 or one of my Sigs where I can.

Need to think about bullet choice as well. Hollow-points are illegal in some states (as of the last time I checked). I believe MD and NJ are two examples.
Not sure about MD, but the NJ regs specifically call out Hornady critical defense and other "polymer filled rounds" as acceptable. This is posted ont he NJ state police gun FAQs.

Under a ten round limitation I'd probably choose a Sig P365 or Glock 26. If JHP is restricted (in NJ not illegal but restricted, last I knew) I'd go with a 45 auto with ball ammo. If revolver only a J frame or K6XS, or an LCR. Or two.

I’ll likely stick with my same typical carry guns (G43X/48, LCP Max, and/or Taurus snubby .38, but I’ll use 10 round mags for the Glocks.

Eh… hypothetically a 3” S&W M10 w/ 148grn HCWC… in reality… my Beretta M1934 w/ flat nose FMJ

I'll worry about this when/if the idea becomes law, and I'm not optimistic. Then, IF I had to go to such a place where what gun, mag, bullets may still matter (I generally avoid these places} I am sure I have some gun/ammo combination that would be compliant.

This would be a great marketing opportunity for a manufacturer willing to do the research; an all-state carry pistol that clears every issuing agency across the country.
But even in restrictive states like here in California, a person can put a non-roster gun on their permit. The big no-no's would be a +10 magazine and threaded barrel. Other than that, it's fairly broad and permissive. For me personally, I don't own a lot of nor really like subcompacts, but I already have an m40 and m43 Firestar. So if the question is qualified with "no investment/bring what you own already", that would be it since mag capacity likely wouldn't be an issue anywhere and I have a decent holster for it too. But it's like carrying a brick around so not exactly ideal.

With a 10 round limit .... Thinking of guns I already own. Sig P365, S&W Airweight 642-2, Sig Sauer C3 1911, or a Dan Wesson Guardian in 9mm with 10 round magazines.

Another reason to not support the god'vernment and National Reciprocity unless it's unrestricted Constitutional Carry

Interesting thought exercise.
For CONUS, my first reflex would be my Astra A-70. Eight rounds of 9x19, and no quibbling about if "extended" mags are available (a "gig" that would seem to exclude my SIG 365X).
My Colt 380 Gov't might get similar consideration, if being a tad light for the vaster areas west of the Mississippi.

If we are allowed to limit things to "mags you got" then, Either the Commander or the Officer's winds up on my list, as seven of 45acp just a hair more to my experience than eight of 9mm.

I wouldn't do a 50 State tour anymore, been to some of them I simply don't care to reenter.

The ones that don't want me or my money have been clear enough in their position.

I can't imagine letting gun laws get in the way of traveling. There isn't a state in this country that doesn't have at least one redeeming quality that I can say something positive about. And (obvious bias because I live here) I can't imagine someone not wanting to come to California just because gun laws aren't favorable, since there's so much to see and do here. That goes especially for San Diego where I'm at, especially this time of year when it's absolutely beautiful outside (save for the earthquake we had today).

This circles back to the idea that "you can't carry what you can't own." If national reciprocity is enacted, you'd have to be aware of any AWBs or mag limits in any state through which you might travel. This could lead to a resurgence of revolvers and limited-capacity semiautomatics such as classic 1911s.
