• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

Reciprocity Gun?

All of my usual LEOSA choices (revolvers and pistols) would pass muster. The revolvers are all 5/6rds, and the pistols use magazines of 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10rd capacity.

Hell, I only ever bought one pistol that uses mags of more than 10rds (even though I was exempt from the magazine capacity laws as LE for so many years), and that's 12rd mags.

I ordered several 10rd magazines for it when CA was trying to enact legislation to restrict even active LE from buying their own higher capacity magazines (only issued ones would have been allowed to be possessed under that proposed law), and retired from continuing to possess those they'd acquired before retirement. That law failed to pass, but I kept the 10rd mags against them trying again. Good thing I did, too, since now that we've bought a house in WA I can't use 12rd mags in that pistol.

Not sure of state laws throughout the USA, so no way to make an educated guess what might be legal or not? But even ammo you carry in your magazines might make things illegal in some states I think?

This not to discuss whether you like CCW national reciprocity. The topic is if it passes (who know?) what would be the gun that would pass legally into all states and the mags that could go with it. It's isn't that you can take your Glock 17 with 17 mags and just drive through the 50 states. This is similar to threads on what rifles could you drive through all states legally.

I would opine that for sure, something like a SW Model 66 or 19 would pass. I'd because of my likes would probably try my SW 632 - 327 mag, 6 shot J frame. Would my Glock 26 make it?

Thoughts, what would and what would be your optimal choice given a 50 state tour?
I'd stick with my 38 snub. Low probability that it would be restricted.

I don't understand why so many act like this is impossible. 🤷‍♂️
Well, we gnaw on the issue in the National Reciprocity thread, and we are specifically instructed to focus n the "what" rather than the "why"--so this is actually meant to stir debate on whether a 10mm revolver might be a better pick than a CZ-52.

But, the very, very short version is that the most reciprocal CHP State is only so with 25 others, and the next most is 23, IIRC, and there's scant overlap between the two. And there's an entirely separate Venn circle for the 26 No Permit required States.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Yep, and Alaska too considering that you have to drive through part of Canada just to get there. And I doubt Canada is going to honor US "CCW national reciprocity" if it ever happens anyway. ;)
Canada is going to be the 51st state at the same time we get 50 state reciprocity. 😉

S&W shield in 40. With the flap point fmjs it breaks down wild boar when shot through the high shoulders. I don't see the need for jhps with it.

revolvers for me: taurus 856 38sp and naa bugout1 22lr. k.i.s.s., especially on the road. national ccw reciprocity suggests to me a discreet, “non-evil” ccw, regardless of the law, as the terrified karens will be out in full force in the anti-2a states.

My money says, if it happens, you will be required to follow the laws and restrictions of the state you are in.

Right. Same as now.

I couldn't imagine actually making a 50 state road trip in the foreseeable future.

If I did, I'd need to check all the states.

If I had to guess now, going from memory, a revolver or a sub 11 round semiauto with fmj could be ok... maybe 7 round Shield if NYC dusts off and amps up the Safe Act again.

As far as caliber goes, as usual, pick the most powerful one you shoot well enough and can conceal.... and likely to find on the road. I'm thinking 380/9mm 32/38 for me.

I would travel with my Walther PPS M2 LE. It included 6, 7, and 8 round magazines. It does not have a threaded barrel. Being > 65, I have a lifetime CCW license from Alabama.

My only concern would be 50 state legal ammunition. I would not want to risk having "illegal" ammunition in my possession.

Question: Do you have to fulfill the training requirements for those states that have such requirements?

In this hypothetical, you don't to know the laws in all 50 states. You only need to know the worst ones.

Several states have 10+ round mag bans. New York had 7, but it's no longer in effect. New Jersey doesn't allow hollow points.

I started carrying during the AWB and at the time my philosophy was if I only have ten rounds, they might as well be 45s, so I bought a Glock 30 and carried it for years. If I had to carry in New Jersey I wouldn't feel naked with a Glock with 11 rounds of 45 ball.

For the best concealment or convenience, I'd go with a J frame 32 or 38 with SWC. Or stout full wadcutters, although it was excluded in the OP.

If the P-365 is on the proverbial list, I'm in like flint. If not, I have small six shooters.

This US situation is comical. Our states sometimes treat each other as foreign lands. How about reciprocity with another Country?

The Czech Republic has CCW reciprocity with some other European countries. And for years they have been fighting pressure from the idiot Eurocrats in Brussels to dissolve Czech gun rights.
As icing on their cake, gun rights are in the Czech Constitution.

Speedo66: We would have planned a trip to Canada in early June, but I didn't want to hear any provocations from any wise guys-not with my wife present.
Canadians --even twenty years ago-- could be a bit obnoxious when they notice American body language, accents etc.

One punk employee in airline operations in Toronto Airport (YYZ) , out of the blue, made a comment about George Bush Jr but i simply walked away to begin the aircraft preflight.

So we picked a different country much further away.

Based on mag capacity and ammo bans in some states, I would consider a few options to be 50 state legal.
1) 1911 in 45ACP I already have
2) 1911 in 10mm I don't have
3) 357 revolver in the 3-4" barrel range.

Hollow point bullets are not illegal in Maryland.

And technically hollow points aren't illegal in NJ either. You can have them at home, you can transport them to and from the range, use them for hunting, but don't you DARE carry them in a defensive firearm. NJ is ridiculous in more ways than firearm law. My best friend lives there, and is a gun owner. I wonder how many headaches he has gotten from these ridiculous legal traps.

I would carry my less expensive and reliable Taurus G3C 40 S&W with it's three 10 rounders topped off with 155gr hard ball ammo. It hasn't missed a beat, and it's surprisingly accurate.
