Any recommendations for a reasonably priced and readily available mag pouch that meets those requirements? I was considering the Blackhawk.

Oh man.

I had this problem big time when I was searching for something to use in IPSC, since I shoot an FNP45.

The closest thing I could find was a generic Gunmate. Otherwise there was a Blackhawk Serpa model that was like $39 a pouch or something.

If this fits your needs, DeSantis can be found at Optics Planet?
DeSantis style A01.
Free shipping over $29.95 and Google 'Optics Planet Discount Code' for easily found 5% codes.

I used a Bianchi double mag pouch for years, even though it was a duty style, with snaps. Under a loose t-shirt, nobody ever commented on it.

Now I use a Hazel leather one. When he comes back online, you should try to get one. The Bianchi is now for uniform carry only.

Still have an Uncle Mikes double with velcro flaps sitting around doing nothing.

You didn't specify which magazines they are for (are all universal?), but Blade-tech is available at

Brownells (link to injected moulded variety, but they also have others)

High Noon (these I know are universal)

i mostly use blade tech produts, thier double mag pouch has been through every training course that i have done and lots of time training on my range. I couldn't be happier with thier products.

I normally would never reccomend something form the following company but thier mag pouches are the only things that i think are worth a darn and that is the fobus paddle double mag pouch. everything else they make is garbage for serious use, but the mag pouch is pretty good.

WTH-different mag pocket sizes?

Mebbe you're already familiar with this?, but I had a Galco and High Noon double stack dual mag carrier and sent 'em back. Both were made with the pocket leather overlapping (one piece of looped leather), meaning one mag pocket was slightly bigger than the other. I could not get the same tension on both mags-one was significantly tighter/looser than the other, and the adjustment screws made no difference AFA equalizing the tension.
I ended up using the DeSantis A01 style referenced earlier-the mag pockets are made with two pieces of leather instead of looping/overlapping, so you have the same tension on both magazines. The DeSantis was also a little smaller, having more of a shrink-wrapped appearance to it.

Jest something to examine when looking at double mag carriers?

I use one of these:

Or if you want OWB Tucker has these:

Or, you could ditch that silly carrier concept and get a magazine of magazines to hold your magazines full of pistol ammo:
