I just bought this Site-Lite SL-100 laser bore sight from MidwayUSA and I'm pretty disappointed in it. It's very well made and seems like it would work well with 4.5"-5" pistols, but the probe that extends into the barrel is too long to work with my Walther PPS. It hits the breech face before the tapered end at the muzzle can center itself in the barrel. It also cuts it pretty close on the 4" barrel of my Walther P99. I can't tell if the o-ring on the probe has gone too far and entered the chamber of the barrel where the inside diameter is larger. It feels like the resistance/drag of the o-ring goes away at the very end of the probe's travel JUST as the tapered end at the muzzle finally centers inside the barrel. Basically, I can't trust this thing with my pistols.

Does anyone out there make one with a shorter probe or possibly a longer one with shims to allow it to center in a shorter pistol barrel?

Before anyone asks why I'm even bothering, I've been installing a lot of aftermarket sights on my own pistols lately and I've determined that if I can find a reliable laser bore sight, it will save me money in ammo and range time trying to sight it in. There's also the issue of human error when shooting live ammunition. A laser stays on constantly so you can keep the sights aligned with ease while observing where the laser is at in relation to the sight picture. If I can find a precision made bore sight that would work in a 3" pistol I'd be extremely thrilled! Really hoping someone can recommend something that just works.

    Thanks!

Yeah, I've seen those. Not sure what to think. Seems like it could be inherently inaccurate due to the short length and how it happens to settle in the chamber, but then again it could work great and fit my needs perfectly. I'll definitely keep this in mind. Just want to hear about other options that have been proven to work for other fellow THR members.
