Recommended Caliber For Euthanizing Farm Animals or Pets

These personal stories are heart-breaking. I've often wondered myself this same question, and would if I had to (vet not an option due to immediate need, etc.), but I know I wouldn't like it. Needle has always been a "softer" exit, but no less painful for me (tears welling as I write this). I dread the day I have to do this again, and I know that I will.

Remember that with larger calibers you will have more of a mess to clean up. Picking up beloved Fido’s brains and skull fragments may leave you with a lot of trauma.
For an animal you are involved with a professional is often best.

One should have the courage to shoot at contact range or about an inch away directly into the brain.
