It appears that this is a well known recipe, 42.5 grains 4064, fed lrp gmm and a 175 smk set to 2.800 oal. Has anyone recreated these and had good success. I dont have the exact primer so I'd have to sub in 300 ccis or br2s.

    That's it, and I think it's 43.0grn IMR4064 with the 168grn SMK.

I would use whichever primer you have more of, but if you are going to the lengths I think you are to load those, I'd prolly opt for the BR2.

I've got some compiled info I can send you on match ammo duplication...

They have 168 and 175 versions, and a few iterations of each.

I sort of did it by accident. I used CCI #34 primers as that was all I could find. 42ish grains of IMR 4064, #34 primer, 175 gr SMK, and 2.800-2.805” COAL. They shoot at least as good as the real thing from my rifle. My load may be going a bit slower though I haven’t confirmed.

ETA: it was 42.5. I had to check my load data book. Fwiw this is in the 308 Service Rifle range of charges, which I like to use.

I was actually just going to start messing with 175's and 4064 in .308, perfect timing on the thread! 43.2gr 4064 with a 168 smk in Winchester brass and a Fed 210 was what cloned the FGMM 168's for me. Definitely going to have to put 42.5 with 175's as one of the steps on my ladders now!

Me too. I'm still working with the 168's right now... I have a box of Hornady 168's to try against the current accuracy winner in my Savage Model 10, the SMK. Once I get through that, I'll start in on 175's. I only use IMR4064 in the Savage... my thought is, if I can't work up a decent load with that, there's something wrong with the rifle., although I will likely try TAC, just for fun, with the 168's.

I have gone up the ladder from 40.5 to 43.5 in .1 increments and all of my groups in the 42 were excellent... using the 175 smk and IMR4064. I did not use a chronograph then. My entries have confused the hell out of me on my spreadsheet so I plan on doing it all over again with the chronograph in the coming months. I use a Rem 9.5 primer with new Starline brass cut to 2.005 and COAL 2.80 give or take a 1000th or 2.

Starline is supposed to be about the same case volume as LC so that is another iteration. I would suspect it to run the same velosity about half to a grain less.

I’ve had just as good accuracy at 100 yards with the 168 grain Amax from Hornady as I did from the 175 gr Sierra. Three different 3-shot groups averaged 1.1” with the best just over 3/4”. That was not with IMR 4064, but the projectile seems sound. I might try the 178 grain ELD from Hornady too as the 175 gr SMK has risen steeply in price. So have the Hornady offerings but the total is still less locally.

The 178 eldx is a good bullet no doubt. I have no love lately for hornaday due to their politics. My match bullets are a 224 80 grn eldm and a 6mm 108 amax. I'll find an alternatives.
