I don't have any experince with red dot optics but was wondering if putting a red dot on my Yugo would be worth it.I currently own a 30mm BSA red dot with 1/8 moa that I got a few years ago for christmas for my slug gun but I never mounted it on my gun.Tonight I was cleaning out my shootin bag and found my sks scope mount,so I decided to see if my red dot would fit and it did perfectly(very tight fit)..My sks is currently in pawn but I'll be getting it out next friday. If anyone on here has a BSA red dot,are they any good for a sks type rifle?I'll most likely be shooting at 40-50 yds max with it.I have over 2000 rds of 154gr wolf and cant wait to get it out to the range.

I like red dots on just about everything and find they work great for short to med range.
If I was puting one on a SKS I'd use one of these mounts so it doesn't get in the way of the stripper clips....

I'm going to get one for my VZ 58 soon.

The red dot I have is only a little over 3inchs long so I don't believe it will interfere with my stripper clips. The only draw back I see is in the mount,it is a reciever cover type and there might be a little movement when I shoot but I don't believe it will matter all that much at close range. When I first got the mount I had to file it down a little bit,but it is a very tight fit.

Don't bother. You will have a terrible time attempting to maintain zero. Optics do not mix well with an SKS. Besides, iron sights are fine considering the limited accuracy of this gun. I had to learn the hard way; do not make the same mistake.

SKS and AK's are combat accurate. Put your sight on middle of mass and you'll hit it out to 250 yds or so. Probably not where you aimed but you'll hit it. If you try to zero a optic scope on either youl'll shoot forever and never get it exactly right. The pinpoint accuracy is just not built in.

I have a BSA red dot sight on my SKS with a receiver cover mount. It helps me out to 100 yards and the nice thing is I don't have to bend my neck as much as I would with iron sights. I have severe nerve damage in my neck from an old car wreck and the red dot really helps me. SKS is not a target rifle.
