I saw that Redding offered a micro adjustable taper crimp die for certain calibers. I could see how this could be really handy being able to adjust on the fly, especially from the perspective of using my LNL AP.

I was wondering if any of you guys have tried these dies out personally. I searched the forum for such a post, and there was a thread from 2013 and it was when Redding first came out with them and nobody had any experience with them yet.

And yes I know some people don’t see the need for a taper crimp, I’m sorry a case mouth flair removal device :)...it’s all about neck tension and I understand that and believe it 100%

But again I was just wondering if anybody had any experience with such dies, are they a gimmick? Was it just a fad a few years back? Or are they a nice addition to the tooling?

I use spacers to adjust crimp dies for various applications/bullets. I adjust the die for a heavy roll or tape crimp and use the spacers to adjust for less.

The Redding die would be much easier. A couple of members here have spoken well of them.

Thank you walkalong your input is always welcomed. I haven’t been a part of this forum for very long but I do appreciate your knowledge.

I’m impressed that you were able to find shim stock for such an application. I could probably find something like that on the turbine deck. But how did you come across these? Did you make them? I wouldn’t be surprised if you said you are a machinist.

I have one and have yet to use it. Reason I bought it was I was using the seat and crimp in a single Hornady die and I found it problematic so I have the two die seat micrometer and taper micrometer set and I am due to load some .45 just haven’t gotten to it yet. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks as I am starting to run low on .45

I’m impressed that you were able to find shim stock for such an application.

Amazon sells a shim assortment in 0.825" ID, just right for shimming lock rings. Some of my more useful dies (ie RCBS X-Die) are setup on a 0.010 shim so I can adjust down without losing my reference setting.

I bought some carbon steel shim packs off Amazon many years ago. If I recall they were cheap $6 for a complete set. I use them like Walkalone does, to tweek dies without loosing my base setting.
