Okay my latest project is my wife's Lee Enfield No4 Mk1 from Faz dated 1943.

Wow this took me a long time. The whole thing had been sprayed over with the worse polyuethane job to hide the really bad sanding job where someone had taken a rotary tool and tried to sand down one side and cover up all the mess.

Well finally after getting the junk off with paint stripper, leeching the cosmoline out that was still inside of it and oils down to the bare wood with over cleaner and boiling water, left to drym the paint touched up with black engine enamel paint around the end of the barrel and a bit on the side. Then the stock slowly and methodically reoiled with BLO its starting to come up quite nicely.

The one thing thats bothering me however is the butt of the stock. Its clearly different wood and I am having a helluva time getting into look good with the oil. Some light sanding between the coats seem to help a bit but its annoying me that its not looking as good as the rest. Any advice to get it to look better without having to stain it?

Wow. That's the first time I've seen a sporter Enfield that doesn't make me want to eject my lunch to the plate from which it came. Great job, and may all your sporters be as attractive as the one shown.
