1. I have put 3 coats of Formby's tung oil( low gloss) on the Mosin Nagant, I also have Tru oil, so can I still use the Tru oil over it?

2. Is the Formby's and Tru oil compatible?

This is my first time trying to refinish a rifle stock so i need a little help!

I'd just continue using Tung oil. I've used Tru oil in the past and liked it, then I decided to use up an almost empty can of Tung oil I have for the boat. I applied it just like the Tru oil with a cloth patch, then sanded the wet finish in. Results came out pretty much the same. Since you can buy a pint of Tung oil for the price of a few oz of Tru oil, I'm going to stick with Tung.

Yes it is compatable.

Just lightly block sand the tung oil and start over with Tru-Oil.

It won't take nearly as many coats of Tru-Oil to fill the grain & get a high gloss finish.
If thats what you want.

If you don't want high gloss, break the gloss with 0000 grade Extra Fine steel wool when you get done.

You may think of you rifle as "Art" w/ a function. I just refinished a Mosin 91/30 stock and found under the dark stain and Laquer a beautiful piece of wood. TRU oil in my opinion made it easier getting the factory- dark stain out. Tung oil is a quality wood preserving material too. Keep at it until your satisfied, oil is cheap.

For oil finishes I like SeaFin oil. It is a marine grade oil that has a hardening sealer agent in it. It penetrates well and you can control the level of gloss by adding more coats. It is VERY durable and you can easily touch up scuffs by laying on more coats.. Too glossy? Just scuff with 0000 wool or white scotch bright.

Cheers
Mac.
