Registered Machine Guns

I'd guess Nevada & Arizona, but I have no idea.

Florida and Texas are a good bet. A lot of old people with disposable income.

You may be right about Texas but there are alot in many other states as well.
 
I did a quick google search for the number of registered machine guns and one page came up with around 250,000. Anybody think this is an accurate number?

That's close to the number I see all the time. 250-300k of them seems to be most reported.

I've never seen any thing breaking it down by state that seemed to have reliable sources.
 
IIRC California has the most. Of course, all but a tiny minority are either owned by LE or movie supply companies. If you mean transferrables owned by private citizens then from the last numbers I saw it's Texas.
 
dirt's link makes the claim that there are over 400,000 MGs in the 50 states. Less than 160,000 suppressors. There's almost three times as many SBSs than SBRs, and only about 50,000 AOWs. I don't know what the percentages mean, and much of the document just too fuzzy to read, but it sort of looks like Florida has more than 33,000 MGs.
 
CoRoMo - that looks like 22k (MGs in FL) to me. But yes, it is fuzzy. And may not even be true/verifiable, but I happened across that thread the other day, and thought I would share. :)
 
The last numbers I've seen were 400,000 and growing registered machine guns with an estimated 125,000-145,000 transferables in civilian hands.

I remember a column in Small Arms Review about a year or two back that quoted Ken Houchens (then head of NFA Branch) as saying that there were about 170,000 transferable machine guns in the registry. I don't remember the exact number, I will have to dig through my back issues and see if I can find it.
 
When a state like New Jersey has more than many western states it must be mostly LE.

Now if could only find out what counties will sign off for a civilian transfer and make a map of that. ;)

Funny thing is that they have also admitted that they don't really know for sure because the database isn't accurate. They claim there are lots of legally stamped firearms that they don't have the paperwork for.

Keep those tax stamps somewhere safe :)
 
California in blue(more than 20,000)??

Probably referring to the movie industry, and not private individual possession.
 
California- it's the movie guns
MD and VA- private ownership and gov't guns
Texas and FL- it's probably the most privately owned guns.
 
There are 5 other local owners within easy visiting distance (10 min drive) from me and we get together on occasion. I thought we had more up here in Maine however.
