I just got through looking at the Texas DPS registered sex offender site - the page for my home town. Every state has this offered, you just need to do a search for 'your state' registered sex offender list.
Found out that the old guy that rides a bike around and does odd jobs is a registered offender - ditto on the guy at the oil change shop. Also recongnized several others.
If you haven't checked this out before, I recommend that you take a look - you will be shocked at how many there are in your area.
I'm glad they make this information available. I'm going to have my wife and boys take a look at this when I get home (I'm on the road right now). It's good to know them and be aware. I also think it's instructive for my wife who at times accuses me of being too "paranoid" about locking the doors, installing an alarm in the house, etc...
