Anyone have a tried and true light load for a 308 Win. I was thinking about a 90gr FMJ for target use. I shoot an Encore 15".

dedgunner,
I have a feeling a bullet that light in a .308 will not perform well at all. Even though some manuals list charges for a 110gr bullet I don't know anyone who has had much success using a bullet that light. Like said above, try a 125gr bullet like USSR suggested and use a light youth load like GP100man suggested. Hodgdon has a page on their site dedicated to Youth Loads that's very good information. READ THE WHOLE PAGE before you try using the data and use only H4895 powder like they tell you.

Good lick and welcome to the forum. :)

Thanks All,
I will try the Hodgdon recommended youth load for my .308 and see how it performs. I guess I'm just too cheap to waste all that powder and bullet mass on target shooting at the indoor range I use.

I used a Speer 110 gr HP in .30-06 using a listed load and had decent accuracy. I wanted gentle target shooting out of one of my 1903a4 rifles. All shots stayed within 3" at 100 yds. and I think that was as good or better than the ordnance department requirement for the sniper rifle in WW2. (admittedly using a commercial Weaver K4 in place of the issue scope).
