bought an older .40 sig 226, and have been shooting my reloads(155 gr rainiers and universal powder)but it is shooting high, so I thought about trying a rainier 180 gr, but can not find much load data on it. anyone have a favorite load using w231, or AA5 or universal?

Did you shoot some control factory ammo to make sure the issue is your reloads and not the sights? What sight numbers do you have on the SIG? The .40 is usually set with #6 front and #8 rear.

sights are the 6 and 8, I think I will try some factory ammo and also load up some 155gr a little hotter, my reloads are at the min load, see if I can get the bullet to move out of the barrel a little faster, before recoil raises the muzzle. I was thinking of the 180 gr since thats what sig used to set the sights.

I have a SIG P220 and it shot high. Called SIG and they told me I knew nothing about shooting as their pistols are zero’d assuming the center of the front sight is in the middle of the target. The representative said this was “combat shooting” , you are supposed to completely cover the target with the front sight, and insinuated that anyone who uses a 6 O’C, flat tire, or center hold, is a complete rube.

I had to buy adjustable sights to get my P220 to shoot in the middle of the target as the thing shot over the target, even with 6 O'C holds.

Sight Image 3 is the correct one for SIG. But owners have indicated on forums that it is not always true. Looks like you need to determine first how your P226 is sighted, and then determine if you need to adjust your reloads.

I use no 2 sight pic, its too dark to see the dots where I shoot to use no 3, going to try fact ammo tomorrow and if it shoots lower than make new reloads.

it was my reloads, factory ammo and new hotter reloads dropped the point of impact. I will continue to use my lighter reloads in my Witness silver team with the compensated barrel, it likes it.

Hilarious... their explanation doesn't match the problem. If you were shooting LOW, then their explanation would have had some merit.

If you hold 6-o'clock with a typical SIG and expect center bullseye hits, and get 6 o'clock hits, (i.e., it's shooting LOW), then their explanation of their combat hold has merit.

But if it's hitting HIGH, it's the opposite problem.

Silly SIG.

BTW I shot a recent P220 that shot a foot and a half high at 15 yards. Yes, that's a problem with the gun.

To the OP, try different loads and ammo, but if it's still not hitting where you want, change the sights.
