Reloading Press Shellplate LED light System

I am interested in your light, but quite frankly, the wire routing around the moving press scares me. I would keep wondering what happens if I tangle the wire in the press and pull the wire out of the LED.

Well, as with anything, you must take some care to ensure longevity of the item you are working with. In this case I would route the wire so that it cannot come into contact with the shellplate. That is really the only moving item in that area. In my photo above, if I was leaving it there fulltime, I would simply use a ziptie or adhesive backed tiepoint to secure the wire to the press post to keep it from moving around.
The rest of the wire runs under the finished bullet tray, thru the area where the casefeeder attaches, then travels across the bench to the plug in. Keep in mind the LED strip is only 7/16 wide, so if you wanted to get tricky, you could bore a hole in the bench and feed it thru from underneath. (No wire across the bench that way.)

I would have no problem drilling a small wire sized hole into the body of the press to route the wire out of the way, if tht would help increase reliablity.

I like it, and I want one.

Like others, I'd like to have a switch on it. Also like others, I'd like to route the wire through and under my bench to reduce clutter. I've got an idea for two birds with one stone that hopefully wouldn't add too much to the cost. You could put a plug just below the light strip. It would be easier to route the wire with just the small plug on the end, and it would serve as a serviceable, though not perfect, on/off switch.

Something like this is what came to mind: http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/103285-conn-dc-power-plug-1-4x4-3x6-5mm-pp-016.html

This is a modification I wouldn't at all mind doing myself, but if you could incoporate something along those lines without significantly raising the price I'd just assume buy it already done.

Thank you guys for the input! I have decided to incorporate a switch into the light system. I have parts inbound. Stay tuned.

25 bucks and switched sounds good to me. I'd like one and a roller handle.

Cool. Order was placed this morning. I requested that you not install the double-sided tape to facilitate swapping the light strip from one press to another.

Thanks for your efforts!

Dap22. It is working for me, I jumped on via my shop computer and my phone. Maybe it was a glitch? Hit me up if you have any further problems.

Inlet power from power strip

The LED illumination strip is mounted on a Dillon 550 progressive. The mounting instructions were straight and to the point. The aluminum mounting strip I did bend to conform to the inside radius of the Dillon 550 frame thus allowing one LED to have a downward light projection. For my application the illumination strip is only going to be mounted on one unit. I have a power strip on the bench to provide the inlet power.

Hope mine gets here today. I have a lot of 223 to load up and it's hard to see down those tiny little necks on the Dillon.

Where's mine? :neener:
Of course, mine is special order since I'll have 2 lights.
One for the press and one for the case feeder.

I feel the same way about batteries, but did somethin a little different.

I took a bright white led, and an old computer power supply and made what you show. Computer power supplies have 5 volt +/- outputs on two wires. I was worried that 5 volts might everdrive the light, so I put a small adjustable potentiomer in line with the light to be able to 'dim' it a little. Turned out I didn't need the pot. The light works well with the full 5 volts.
The light fastened easily with a hot melt glue gun. Total cost was zero, as I a had an led light.

Yea, you're special allright...............:neener:

When you get your 2 light set up installed, take a pic or 2. I would like to see how it performs in that case feeder.

Nice pictures Hangingrock. Those adhesive backed tie points are perfect to route the wire with.

Works well!
