I'm building a 700 from parts I've acquired over the past year or so. The only thing I'm missing is the bottom metal and magazine assembly. I'm keeping an eye out for people selling factory take-off stuff but if I were to buy that stuff new I'd might as well get into an aftermarket DBM setup. What's the skinny on DBM makes and styles?

Seekins dbm, using AICS mags. Magpul mags are proving to be great lower cost alternatives. Not all guys care for it, but I LOVE the push button release on the Seekins bottom metal.

Are any of the options you guys listed drop in or would a bit of milling be involved?

Have you tried the classifieds? May find some take off parts there. My 700 has the DBM. The stock parts are very well made and all metal. Only problem is capacity. My 7mm mag only holds 2 plus 1. 3 if I force it in.

Yup, keeping an eye out on the usual forums for parts. Missed one recently by 5 minutes for the floorplate, box and all. It's all about timing.

I see quite a few short action bdl parts fairly cheap on ebay. Sometimes you just have to search 700 stock and watch the pictures, ive run across standard dbms like that as well. The aftermarket bottom metal hasnt been on my radar, but ill keep an eye out as well

I used the Magpul bottom "metal" setup on my R700 with the Hogue stock. I had to dremel out the stock a bit to make it fit (I knew I would) but it works like champ. Had another buddy do the same on his rifle (similar to mine) and he claims it feeds better than the factory blind magazine setup.
