Remington 11-87 magazine spring retainer question

Was working on installing the plug in an 11-87 and after pushing the retainer clip in and twisting it, all I got was it stuck ~2" or so in the magazine. Won't budge. Any suggestions?

Apply lubricant and try removing it again (by sticking a screwdriver in the hole and prying up).

you said it was down about 2" in the tube so get a wine cork screw and insert it in to the hole in the retainer and pull it out. since the hole may be bigger then the cork screw you may have to pull one side at a time but you will work it out.
