Remington makes a .308 diameter 30-carbine bullet weighing 110grains. Do you have any of these projectiles on your bench??? If so, do yourself, and me a favor and measure them! I have almost 1500 pills and every single one of them I spot checked is showing an actual diameter of .3065''! The ONLY reason I checked was because I was getting some really weird chrono readings while trying to load them at sub-sonic velocities for a 300BLK bolt action...WHY I'm doing this is besides the point
It took 2 MORE grains of H4198 than I'm loading my 220SMKs with, to get the 110s up to and around ~1000fps....so with about 10grains my 220s are averaging right around 1020fps, but the 110s required 12grains before they even broke 1000fps! Would I be right to assume that this is exclusively because of the smaller diameter allowing gasses to escape past the bullet while pushing it?
