Did remington ever do a factory finish nickel reciver?
I picked up one that dates 1977 that has a nickel reciver and im wondering if someone did this or was it a factory job. I cant find any info on them if so...I see where some of the newer ones are offered in this...

Are you sure it's plated and not just polished? That dark rollmarking was accomplished how? There was a "stainless" barrel on GunBroker a while back that was a blued barrel with the bluing polished off. I have never seen or heard of a nickel plated or stainless 1100. If it is nickel I would bet it was done by an owner. It does look to be in pretty good shape.

I was told it was nickel by the po...I'm not sure though. How would I tell polished vs nickel?

I know there was an 1100 with a nickel receiver being offered by Remington as a trap shotgun a few years ago for a while. It was a really nice shotgun, and I love the 1100. Like I said though, this was only a few years ago and for a short time only. Haven't seen it again since. You say yours is a '77 model. Maybe they offer them periodically, but I couldn't tell you with any certainty if it's a factory job.

The 1100s with the nickeled receivers were the Sporting Premiers with a totally different rollmarking pattern than the one pictured. They were recently discontinued. The one pictured is a 1963-1978 version of the rollmarking as best I can tell in that little picture, and that is also the same vintage stock style.

It could have been nickle plated afterward and the roll marking filled in. That would be my guess. I see blue guns with white or gold filling in the roll marks all the time. No reason you couldn't do it in black on a nickle finish.

It doesn't look all that much like nickel to me. BUT, a computer picture can fool you pretty easily. I have had a slew of nickel plated Colt SAAs and clones, and bought some nickel plated and had some done. Now this is just my interpretation, but with polished platings/finishes; Nickel plating tends to have a yellow tint, whereas polished stainless will have a bluish tint, and chrome is just white in tone. With satin nickel, chrome, or stainless all bets are off because the satin reflects light differently. I would look carefully at the bottom of the receiver where the plating or polishing stops and see what that looks like.
