Remington 40x 7.62 NATO q’s

Homemade trigger pull tester. Coat hanger-light weight tin lid-4-1lb Lyman bars-1 box 240gr bullets=Trigger Weight Tester. The coat hanger must rest on the trigger at the same area each time, or reading will be different. Get close with the 1 lb Lyman bars, then add 240gr bullet, till hammer drops. I did get the 1lb bar weight from a good scale.

The NRA set cost $150.

Set a T/C Contender (Free Pistol) to 9 OZ using this.

Alright, alright!

So, I goofed and brought the wrong ammo to the range. Instead of the 168 grain SMKs I grabbed a box of my M80 ball clone handloads. Oops. This stuff’s fine but nothing special, just Hornady 150 grain FMJBTs over 4895. Oh well, let’s see. I got the rig sighted in at 25 yards and moved back to 100. After a couple of ragged-hole groups I knew it would shoot. The longest range I had available today was 300 yards so I trudged out there in the cold, lol.

The first shot out there was high, so I made an adjustment and fired again; closer. After another adjustment I shot a five shot group a hair under 2 inches, with two rounds in the same hole. Despite the cold I went on to fire a few more groups at 300 with the same results. For me, this is excellent and I am very happy to have a 2/3 MOA rifle with my cheapest reloads. I’m going to try to come back tomorrow with the SMKs to see how they do. The rifle’s weight makes it a pleasure to shoot; recoil’s just a nice bump and the target stays in the field of view easily. Happy man. IMG_4272.jpeg

Back to the range today with the 168 grain SMK handloads:

300 yards again.

It was barely above freezing but very still, with a quartering breeze of just 1-3 mph. I’ll take 1/2 MOA any day! WOOT! I’m also pretty happy that I have maybe a thousand of these SMK/4895 loads already on the shelf.

Thanks to all for your support in this thread and for convincing me to buy this rifle!

Getting better…

Added a Protektor leather rear bag and am still using my Caldwell front bag; still a pretty stable setup. I think I’ll settle on the 168 grain SMK in front of 43 grains of IMR4895. It hit 46 degrees today so I spent the morning at the range. 12 groups of 5 at 300 yards and not one was over an inch and a quarter. I’m really loving this rifle.

If you are interested I have a 4 to 10 ounce target trigger for a 700 Remington that I bought years ago, never installed. It’s either a Jewel or Timney, forget now. I think Timney. Nothing to use it on and I’d let it go pretty cheap compared to new

Thanks guys! I’m pretty pumped. I’ve finally figured out a few things -
Accurate rifle, +
Stable rest, +
High power, clear glass, +
Good ammo

Small, happy groups! :)

Redneck2, that’s awesome. PM inbound Sir.
