Remington 514 question

Howdy folks.
I have a question about a rifle I acquired after my grandfather's passing. It is a Remington 514 in .22. I really like this little gun and it seems fairly accurate especially given the sites that are on it. But, the trigger pull is horrible. It has a ton of "creep" and is way too stiff for my liking. Is there anything that can be done by a novice to tighten up the creep and soften up the pull? I dont want to spend much money on it since it isn't in great shape and is more of a 'plinker' than anything (but I still want it to be accurate and with the way the trigger is that is tuff to do with it.)

I don't think there's much you can do to lighten the trigger pull on that model. Its an old gun and the trigger mechanism may be gunked up. Try taking it out and cleaning it up and see if that helps.

Not that you can't get excellent advice here but try Rimfirecentral and click on Remington and post your question. It's often better to ask on a specific forum and there are a lot of guys over there that collect & shoot & rebuild the Remington 510 to 514 series of rimfires. I think there is a couple over there that you can simply send your trigger to for work.

Excellent advice that you got already that a good cleaning might help. Soaking the bolt in bore solvent should loosen the crud and make things work a bit better.

Sorry to hear about that trigger pull. I have several old remi 22 and expecially enjoy the 512s. Never have had to do any work on them though.

Try a little j & b bore paste on all contact surfaces and shoot it until you get the desired pull then clean and oil the bolt.
