Recently traded a few guns plus some cash for a Remington 541-T. Bought it with the intention of reselling it only, and in fact have it for sale in the trading post section. Coincidentally I have been wanting a bolt action 22. I have heard the 541s are sweet guns, but I have been really impressed with what I have read about CZ 452 (Americans) and have heard they will not be made any longer. I know where I can get one right now for about $360.

My debate is this...if I sell the 541 for what it is going for on Gunbroker (usually 500 pretty easy) I would have enough money for a CZ AND a scope. If I keep the 541 though, I will still have to sink another 75-100 in a scope, and in the end I will have quite a bit more money in the Remmy.

Am I a fool to sell the 541 and buy a CZ? Or would accuracy be comparable?

Let the debate begin :)

PS I am looking for a real tack driver. I want something with a small hole at 100 yards. This will be my first bolt action rifle and I want to start out right.

The 541 is a fine rifle and I would not trade mine for any two CZ's. While my CZ 452FS is a wonderful and accurate rifle, the 541 is still my favorite small game rifle.

Hard to choose. That is one of Remingtons best. It will always appreciate in price. Adding a nice 22 scope is not that tough. Since there's no recoil, almost any used adjustable AO scope will be fine. Heck, even a BSA 22 Special can be had for cheap and it will work for quite a while :)

You mentioned that the CZ 452 will no longer be made, but you failed to state that the Rem 541-T is no longer made. So, 6 one way, and half-dozen the other. I'd say keep the Rem 541-T.

I've got a 541S that is just awesome. I inherited the gun and have no plans to sell it. I'd hang onto that 541T and start saving for the CZ and then you can have both!

The CZ magazines are better than the plastic Remington magazines.
Accuracy wise, the two are comparable.

I wouldn't do it

Did you know the 541t hasn't been built in a few years? I had a 541s that I let go of and kicked myself for years until I bought a 541t-hb{heavy barrel}.the 541's are extremley accurate, beautiful, and were built right here in the good old USA. The CZ is a nice rifle, good looking and pretty accurate too, but why trade down? Some people might disagree, but I feel you'd be trading a new cadillac for a 51'dodge.:what:

I wouldn't go that far, the CZ's are excellent rifles. They are well-made, all steel, very accurate and the walnut models have better wood (Turkish walnut) than nearly any Remington 541. CZ's are great rifles, I just wouldn't part with my 541 to procure one.....or two.

I have a beautiful 541-T that shoots very well, and is a great American made rifle. I would never consider trading for a CZ-452, regardless of their being a nice rifle.

Yes, the Remington magazines are cheap plastic, but for me, they always function properly. I have 5 and 10 shot versions.

The 541T is a wonderful rifle, that I would never part with. Even though CZ says that they aren't going to build anymore 452s, the jury is still out. If the demand stays high they will still build them. Also there is no shortage of used 452s, and they will be easily obtainable for sometime.

What I'm suggesting is to never allow yourself to fall into the I have to buy this right now because there won't be anymore, or the price is going up soon. Right now is the worst possible time to buy a CZ due to the weak dollar.

I have both a 541T and a 452 American 16 (threaded barrel). If I had to get rid of one of them, I'd lose the CZ in a heartbeat. The 541 is about as close to a full-sized rifle as you can get in a rimfire, with beautiful, classic lines. Mine is pristine and wonderfully accurate. I'll admit the magazines are cheesy, but the safety moves in the right direction! And the stock trigger on the 541 puts the 452's to shame. Love my 452, too. But I'd pick the 541T over the 452 any day of the week.

Hang on to the 541.

Great help guys, I got some thinking to do... The overwhelming response towards the 541 makes me strongly think that I will be keeping it, even if it means I will have a bit more money in it. I knew some people on here would have both and be able to compare them for me :)

I have a cz 452 varmint in .22LR. Its an awesome rimfire. I have not really tweaked the scope, ammo to it as I have not tried all the ammo thats out there. But with a 7-12 mph wind at 3/4 to head on and a wobbely bi-pod shooting fiooci match ammo I easily shot 1/2" @ 50 yds. Im sure with searching a bit more ammo and more of a break in, plus setting up on a shooting bench with sand bags I could get 3/8" gropus @ 50 yds or smaller.

One thing I do want to fix is the trigger. Its not bad per se, but it does have a slight amount of creep and I am wanting it at 1.5 lbs. It now sits at maybe 3.5 lbs. With a lighter/crisper trigger I cant imagine how good it would shoot.

I have both and can't imagine parting with either, but my thought is the 541 is a lot harder to come by and will only become more so. I'd keep it and grab a 452 when I got the chance later. That said, you're not going to be hurting with either gun.

BTW, is the 541 unfired? If not, take it out and see how you like it before you decide. Get a few different kinds of ammo as it may have a preference.

dnthmn - Well, it is unfired by me.... bore is perfect. outside has some dings and stuff, but nothing major. doesnt look like theres been any scratches or marks from scope fitting or removal so maybe...??

If it has some dings making it not mint, firing it shouldn't effect it's value. Try it out!

I have both. I would sell the CZ before I sold a Remington 541 if the Remington shoots well. I don't base my choice strictly on group size. I love the sleek feel of the Remington over the more chunky feel of the CZ. I honestly dislike the mauser safety on the CZ, but it is something I can live with. The new CZ 455 seems to have a slimmer stock however. I have looked at a couple. The Savage Mark II Classic has a similar feel and they shoot very well also. You're basically in the realm of the $450-$600 22 rifle. Prices are likely to go up considering the finanacial situation of the USA.

I really prefer the Remington 541-S and 547 personally over the 541-T. The 547 is a current offering from Remington Custom Shop.

This may not be an option, but I would suggest you buy both OR keep the Remington and explore your options on another higher end 22 rifle. Look at CZ, Savage, and perhaps the Ruger 77/22. I have never owned a Ruger 77/22. A used Anshutz is always a good choice. In fact, the Anshutz is often the best choice if you can afford it.

Haven't had a 541, did have a 504 and it was one of the good ones. Probably should have kept it, but did fairly well selling it off.

LOVE my 452 American, most people will say B.S but I've done some 3 shot 1/2 groups at a 100 yards with it (perfect conditions).

Well Ive pretty much decided on giving the 541 a shot. While I love the looks of the 452, the 541 is a nice looking gun, and I feel confident if I take care of it, it wont go down in value. Now Ill just have to save up to get some glass for it... Ill put the 452 on my someday list. Thanks for all the opinions. If I get out and get some shooting done, Ill try to post a range report.
