Hi all, I have about 3k of these 6 1/2 Remington small rifle primers, these do not have a warning about not using in .223. I have seen some talk and wanted to know if using these in place of small pistol primers in .38 special, .357 magnum and or .40 S&W is acceptable? Thanks for any input, and yes I did a search first.

Thinner cup than other SRP's. They should work fine in handgun rounds.

The Rem 6 1/2 are for the 22 Hornet, low pressure. Using them in hand gun will work just fine. I used the last of mine up in my 357Mag loads.

I actually used most of mine up in 22 Hornet rounds but experimented with them in 38 SPL ammo. They worked fine for this. They should be fine using them in those rounds. Don't forget to drop back a bit and work up to your loads again just to be safe.

Remington 6-1/2 SRP's are no thinner than CCI 400's and I use CCI 400's all the time in my AR's. I also use CCI 400's in all my SPP applications and never have a misfire either. That's why I prefer CCI 400's as my first choice when buying small primers. The only SRP's I do not purchase for loading .223/5.56 are Federal SRP's but I don't mind using Federal SPP's for my handguns.

Yes, they will work in handgun ammo.

Like said above, the Rem 6 1/2 primers are for low pressure rifle ammo like the 22 Hornet. The Hornet ammo generates similar pressures as magnum handgun cartridges. Last time I came across 400 Rem 6 1/2 primers I used them in my .357 Magnum ammo. They worked very well.

Not just about cut thickness, but also how hard the cup metal is.

Guarantee, if used in high pressure rifle rounds, you will experience pierced or vented primers if using Rem 6 1/2.
