Well I'm sure this has been asked before. But what are the advantages of choosing one over the other. And what gives the most "bang for your buck". Which has the most customization option. so on and so forth? thanks in advance.


P.S no fights over which is better please [ALA ak or ar ]
 
I like the CZ. It's modeled after true classic hunting rifles.
Remingtons are fine, but way too pricey for what you get. Besides, the CZ is a Mauser.
 
CZs come chambered in 6.5x55. That's reason enough for me.

The CZs seem to have a more classy polished blued and walnut look to them. That's one reason.
 
Rem 700BDL CZ550 Get both. One 30`06 and one .270win.
or one .308win and one .270wsm. Burris or Leupold or Zeiss glass on both.

That being said the CZ's are so nice that there really isn't much need to customize them. What are you looking to do? Precision bench shooting, super fine sporting rifle, tacticool sniper lookalike. The rem is better suited to some of these tasks and the CZ is better suited for others.


Can you put ammo in the top like the remington into the CZ?

Depends on the model. CZ527 NO, CZ550 depends on if it's a detach mag or not
 
The Remington is very servicable and more customizable, but the CZ will be much more nicely fitted and finished. If you want an action for a project and push-feed is on your ticket, the Remington is hard to beat. If, OTOH, a CZ is available in a chambering and form that is pretty much what you want, the CZ will likely prove more satisfying to own.

In way of disclosure - I am selling my last Rem700. I recently bought an A-Bolt Medallion that shoots better than my 700 SPS stainless, is better balanced, and has a fit/finish that the Remmie can't touch. I cannot see any reason to own the 700 when I have something else that is simply more satisfying to own and shoot.

The CZ 550 has a single set trigger. It's adjustable for let off and is very shootable right from the box.The Rem trigger is pure crap. Its heavy and creepy. The CZ's barrel is free floated. The Rem's isn't AFAIK. Fit and finish on the CZ is better, IMHO. Accuracy off a bench with sandbags is pretty close.
 
I have both and like them both, it really depends on what you want to use it for. The 700 trigger is adjustable, so you can fix the very heavy pull with a few turns. The single set trigger on the CZ is very nice, but the non set trigger is pretty heavy (not adjustable that I know of), not as crisp, and has creep unlike the 700. I love the 6.5x55 so the only current production option of the two is the CZ. I think the fit and finish of the CZ is a little better, as well as the price. The hammer forged barrels on the CZ also seem to make a difference, every one I've shot has been incredibly accurate (under MOA). The proprietary scope rings are somewhat limiting on the CZ.
 
there is many more customizations for a 700 than a CZ but like all cz firearms you get a ton of bang for your buck:) my vote is for a cz with a full stock chambered in 6.5 swede
 
I would go CZ. Maybe a fluke but I bought a new 700 sps varmint (my only remington 700) it didnt feed right, half the time when we were shooting prairie dogs I would close the bolt and click, no round in the chamber? I also could not get the groups as tight as my savage's will do? Maybe mine was a lemon, but it had to go.
 
Okay then CZ it is. Which model is the best for general purpose hunting HD and plinking? Also i plan on getting it in either 7.62X39 or .223. mostly because those the cheapest calibers around. :D

Wise choice.

What is general purpose hunting to you? What size animal, and what range do you anticipate shooting at?
 
I really have no idea what range i'll be shooting at. i'm gonna buy my first deer rifle. i don't really thing a .22 will kill a deer. : ) although i would like to be able to get some good distance shots in once in awhile for plinking.

Because this is your first deer rifle, I highly recommend that you get a classic caliber. Something like 30-06 and 270 are near the top of the list. People get all wrapped up in getting something new and exotic. I used to think like that, but got a really good deal on a 270, and have never looked back.

If you live in a wooded area a .30-30 is a good choice, in wide open country it's tough to beat a .270 or .30-06.

After you have that rifle for awhile, you will find that you can't possibly hunt deer without a .35 Remington, 6.5 swede, .243, .308, 45-70 etc...........:D
 
I have wanted a CZ550 American in 30-06 for a long time now. I've watched the prices steadily increase and kick myself every time I think about the chance I had to get one for less than $400.00 a few years ago.
 
Well mostly i want it in .22 or 7.62 because of the price per bullet. that and the ability to stockpile easily due to all the warlords worldwide with lousy clerical skills [j/king]. Plus i've fired 7.62 and i really like it. plus my brother can shoot it [or could, stepdad sold the yugo :(] very well.


EDIT: is their any other bolt action gun in 7.62X39. i'm starting to like the idea of a 7.62 bolt.
