Remington 700 SPS Varmint versus CZ 527 Varmint Laminated...

Just curious as to which would be more accurate in theory. I know that individual guns will vary, and different loads would change things as well. What I'm trying to get at I guess is which rifle is better designed to provide to greatest accuracy? Both rifles have a 1:12 twist, so light bullets will max out the range at under 500 yards probably.

I want the opinions of THR and then myself and new member, Mlw332, can put your answers to the test. He just bought a 700 VS and I am awaiting delivery of my 527 VL. Both rifles will have a Millett 4-16x56, Buck Gold, VTS scope mounted, so in theory it should come down strictly to which rifle is more accurate, right?

Nothing like a good challenge. I'll talk to him and we'll probably post targets when we are done. The only advantage I can think of either rifle having over the other would be the CZ's single-set trigger, and I could always shoot without it if necessary. May the best rifle win.

As a side note, if there are any THRers locally that might want to help us wring these rifles out feel welcome to shoot me a PM. Might not be a bad idea to have a couple of un-biased shooters.

By the way, I have a cz 527, and I could show you with pics, but with 55 and under grain bullets, especially the black hills, and the Winny 45 grainers, it really is a one hole punch at 100 yds. I mean that.

rangerruck, the kevler-stocked version is a 1:9. The Laminated, at least the older version is a 1:12. I think the new ones may be 1:9.

From what I've seen of the performance of recent versions of both, my money is on the CZ. Sorry, Remington fans, but at some point you have to admit that today's Remington isn't like 30 years ago. Then again, I'll put my 1-7 Savage up against either of those at 500. Wait, 1-7 is cheating, isn't it?

Yeah, I would say that 1:7 gives a you an advantage, Ski.

I have to make a correction on the poll. The Remington is a 700 SPS Varmint. Don't know how much difference this makes. Sorry for the mix up, MLW332.

I don't have the varmint version, but my regular ol standard model 527's first three groups consisted of two under 1/2" and one just over, with cheap winchester bulk pack ammo. Haven't even tried more premo stuff given the accuracy of the cheap stuff. I also have one of the cz 22's, and again it is unusually accurate. I'd have to say my money's on the cz, especially given my last few experiences with remington rifles.

I have a CZ 513 and a 452 FS in 17 HMR. Both of them are scary accurate. I'm not counting out the 700 though. I've got a standard Model 700 in 243 that will put three rounds into one hole at 100 yards. This might get interesting.

Flip a coin. Both will be accurate with the right ammo. I went thru the same decision process last summer and bought the Rem 700 VSSF II. I chose the Remmie over the CZ due to the wide availability of aftermarket triggers for the 700.

I have a CZ 527 and I'm not thrilled with the set trigger. The set trigger on my 527 breaks at 5oz. I've tried to adjust it to break a little heavier, but 5oz is the heaviest I've been able to get. The weight of my finger resting on the trigger will set it off. I don't want a trigger that light on a varmint rifle. With the Remmie I was able to buy an aftermarket trigger with the exact weight I wanted (1lb) and it shoots beautifully.

My gunsmith did a trigger job on the 527 that gave the regular trigger a perfect break at exactly 3.5lbs. Breaks like glass and not a hint of creep. I actually prefer the regular trigger over the set trigger now.

Remington, they're American made!

Considering the quality of Remington shotguns in recent years, American made is nothing to brag about. But at least the rifles are still good.

Maybe not but, I was born here, work here, live here, and will probably die here. I'll spend my money on American products and keep Americans working!
I've shot a 11-87 since they came out, big improvement over the 1100. You must be refering to the imported models of late?
