    I really like my Win 70 Compact Classic in 7mm-08. It is lightweight and very accurate. I have no problems with feed and extraction.

    Natedog;

    I've already put my money where my poll vote went. Winchester new model stainless classic LHB in .03-06 with BOSS/CR. And I'm a happy shooter.

    Model 70. The safety works! It locks firing pin as opposed to other designs.

    Regards,

    Well, I cant vote because I never had a 70. But I gotta tell ya I've had a ton of 700s. I liked every one of them and they all shot well, never had a bad one. Course I live very close to the factory so that was always one reason for me to buy remington but I never had to send one back for anything....

    Both are of similar quality and function in their intended roles. Given the choice.......Winchester M-70. Controlled round feed, large claw extractor, fixed mechanical ejector, and three position safety.

    Had one of each over the years and both have their place. But asked to buy a new rifle today I'd go Winchester because of Remington's continuing commitment to declining quality control. Winchester meanwhile seems to be producing a more consistent firearm.

    Either will work, but there are a few things about the Winchester that I prefer.

    Different strokes for different folks.
    I'm a Rem 700 fan. No problems with mine...all 4 of them.

    :D RRRRRRRRRRemington~~~!!!

    That's MY preference.
    I like the design, feel, function, etc.
    Gunny Hathcock liked it.
    Good enough for me.

    I don't know what else to say about it.

    Like Volpe, I've never owned a Model 70. Have had several 700s, though, and still have two in the safe. Both are excellent shooters. I've heard good things about the Winchester, but have no direct experience with one. Certainly wouldn't rule one out, though.

    I own both and I think it is a wash. Both are great rifles and have a distinguished following. I really do like my Minchester Model 70 Classic Sporter in .270.
