Remington 7600 J LOCK Good or Bad

In looking at the new crop of 7600 rifles I see that they have the j lock. Is this a bad thing that makes the rifle fucntion any worse than a standard 7600 w/out the j lock. I ask because it seems that when a company changes a feature on a rifle the gun dealers swoop in and start charging extra for the old version as if it is somthing special. Some may call it supply and demand I feel it's creating a pre 64 type premium on rifles that may not warrant that. I will state that my history with the 7600 has been great. I feel the 7600 is a fine rifle with a good history.

The J-lock is less desirable because the possibility is always there to get out hunting and realize your trigger is locked and the key is back at home.

It's not really a big deal. If you never lock it and leave the keys in the box or throw them away it will not lock itself. I've had 700's for years with the lock and it's never been a problem. If it bothered you bad enough I think you could swap out the trigger assembly for a non jlock version.

I wouldn't let it stop you from getting a rifle you want. Most of the negative thinking on these is the idea of protecting us from ourselves.

Jlocks were discontinued around Jan. 2005.
