So I finally pulled trigger (pun intended) on a pristine, LNIB Remington 7600 carbine in .35 Whelen. It's even blued and not parkerized, which is a big plus in my book. It's in gorgeous shape, complete with threaded barrel and suppressor, but there's one major drawback: it's been fitted with an awful plastic camo stock.

Ideally I'd replace it with OEM fancy walnut or maple stock, but they seem to be few and far between. Very nice aftermarket custom stocks in fancy+/exhibition grade wood are available but I'm hard pressed to spend $600-1000 on a set. It's a nice gun but not that nice.

Boyd's has a solution, $300-ish sufficient quality custom walnut stock, complete with shipping policy on the safest side I've seen in a while, ie. no international sales on items over $100 value. Even on pieces of wood.

What options do I have? I've googled quite a bit, kept an eye on eBay and come up with nothing that would fit the bill.

I wanted a higher comb on my 7600 carbine for scope use, I bought a older model 6 and exchanged the stocks and then sold the model 6 for only a few dollars less than I paid for the model 6. a nice rem 7600 can be bought for 450-550, change stocks and sell the other rifle. even with the syn stock it should bring close the the price paid for the wood stocked rifle. eastbank.

Place an ad in the classifieds here and on other gun forums seeking a trade with someone. It may take a while, but I'm sure there are people out there who would much rather have plastic. You might get a straight up even trade or at worse have to pay a small amount.

I'd also call Remington. They probably have replacement walnut stocks in their inventory. While I've never bought one from Remington I've done this a couple of times with Ruger. Prices were much better than anything aftermarket.

Thanks for the ideas.

7600:s are rare as rocking horse excrement around here so trade isn't likely to happen. I spent five years looking for one and still couldn't find a decent example (all were either $1000+ or in terrible shape) in .30-06 so I more or less had to jump at the opportunity to get this one in Whelen. Model 6:s are even more so and just the licensing paperwork takes a few weeks and $100+ so unfortunately normal US-style free market principles don't apply.

Calling Remington or the importer directly isn't a bad idea. I didn't remember that possibility and I've had great luck with others (Benelli stocks etc.) so it might work...
