I have this shotgun (http://www.remington.com/products/f...-870/model-870-express-synthetic-7-round.aspx), and the magazine tube only holds five 2 3/4 shells even though the magazine tube is the same length as the barrel. I thought it could carry seven. I inherited the gun recently and don't have anything extra for the firearm. Thanks.

The factory extension should hold SIX rounds, with one in the chamber, thus some sources call it a seven round gun.
If yours only holds five rounds in the magazine it could be the ammo you have. The UNFIRED length of shot shells can vary quite a bit due to the crimp.
When the length of a shell is stated, it's the FIRED length.
Try some different ammo.

Could it be a burr towards the end of the mag tube?

Might want to check for a plug. I've seen the plug in a couple used guns with extended magazines, maybe put there so they wouldn't get lost.
