It's worth whatever somebody will pay for it.

As a collector it is worth very little with all the "fixes" it has had done.

I paid just under $200 for a correct, original and clean C&R 870 not too long ago.

But from a user's perspective, they are such bargains. Compare the price of new ones, then compare materials and workmanship. It's just no contest at all, as Dave and Lee and others keep pointing out.

I paid $245 delivered, for a cherry 1976 12 gauge Magnum Wingmaster with a 30" Full fixed choke barrel about 18 months ago. I got a 30" Light Contour barrel for it and I'm happy. This is my fifth try at recapturing the perfection that was a 1974 edition that I so foolishly sold so many moons ago. I think this is also the last try, and is as close as I am going to get. Of all the guns that have come and gone, I can honestly say I only truly regret selling two of them, and that Wingmaster is at the head of the list.

But the P guns go for a premium. If it had been a 2 3/4" Wingmaster with, say, a 28" fixed choke barrel, showing not just visible use but real wear, you'd have paid half that, even in your AO... ;)

My 870

Here's the reciever #'s on my 870 Police issue Riot Shot gun. The number is 407609V. Hope they come through.
Do to it's main functional purposes, I'm not much of a bird hunter but with the short barrel how would it do as far as Dove hunting

yea my reciever was so badly worn it was down to bare metal when i got it. appeared that someone stored it behind or under a truck seat and wore it down good. the stock and forend was not bad. a nick here and there but some moron painted it several times over with red barn paint. i got the gun for $100. i thought was a good deal. fixed it up a little and bought another barrel which i thought was supieror to the stock smooth barrel. i personally think its worth 200-250 now in its current condition. maybe 300 if im including both barrels. the barrel itself usually sell for 130-175 in pawn shops in my area. i live in central kentucky

I just acquired a police trade in that has serial # W8022xxM. From the above info it would seem that it was made in 1972. Is that correct? It also has some residue on the receiver that looks like a "PROPERTY of Hazzard County PD" sticker was removed. Any idea how to clean off that residue? Heat? Solvent? Abrasives?

Mine says Vingmaster .And it has a W in the suffix
If the barrel has no vent rib and is choked for a fixed IC.
It's worth more than 2/3rds the shotguns out there. oh yeah IMO

jtx Dove are federal migratory birds must have plug, so you can't load more than 2 rounds in tube. with low brass 8s, over a stock tank, perfect.

(I meant plug the magazine, before you plug the birds)

Yeah, if your still fighting it a week later, I think you should try a torch. Unload it first.:)

Sorry had you mixed up with another guy.

Gotta love those old 870s. I emailed Remington a couple of years ago, and they
dated mine to 1951. Just bought and old slug barrel with sights on it today off Craigslist. Whopping $40. Already had a modified and imp cylinder barrel, so all I need is a full choke.
