The shortest barrel currently produced for the 870 Super-Mag is 23 inches. Also, they all have vent ribs. I got a decent buy on a 30 inch barrel and had it cut down to the closest rib support that would keep me legal with a Deluxe Poly-Choke added. The end Result is a barrel thats a shade over 19 inches. The ability to change choke settings with one hand and no tools is very handy. The adjustable chokes aren't for every one, but I like the ones I own. I mainly did it for the ability to run any ammo in my HD length barrel that I can in my field length barrel. I see no need for the 3.5 inch ammo in the HD role. I just find it comforting to know my gun can shoot it all. The 3 inch chambered barrels work fine on the Super-Mag. You just have to be mindful of what ammo you're loading.
