Remington factory ammo

I'd agree that Remington's centerfire ammo, while a bit on the dirty side, works fine in my handguns. I also have used Remington .44 magnum in my Ruger deerstalker for years without hiccup or incident. The rimfire ammo is another matter entirely. You'd be better off investing in a pizza and a six pack than a brick of .22 Remington of any stripe. Not sure why that it, but it seems to be universally true.

well, i have shot a bunch of it as well. but honestly, mostly for target practice. my dad had some bad experiences with it, so before i started reloading, i always shot winchester ammo for final sighting in and hunting. the problem my dad had was with the bullet end of it. it may have been a bad batch, or just the way it works, i don't know. the bullets shot accuratly, just did not deliver the punch it was supposed to. he shot a deer with his 300 H&H mag 3 times @ around 70 yards, before my little brother finished it off with his 30-30 (winchester bullets). the 3 holes looked pretty much the same going in as they did going out. very little or no expansion. needles to say, dad went back to winchester ammo, and one shot kills. with my handloads, i either use winchester or hornady bullets for hunting. for target practice, i'll shoot anything that is accurate and inexpensive. of course, that is getting to be a joke now, with all the hoarding going on. i just paid 34.00 for the same 1k primers i paid 22.00 for last spring.

I've never had an issue with Remington centerfire ammo, either handgun or rifle. Always performed as well or better than expected.

Their 22 magnum ammo has always worked for me, also.

But my experience with their Golden Bullet 22LR ammo has been horrid. The worst ammo I've ever had the displeasure to load into a firearm.

I'll never trust their 22LR stuff again.

Yeah, their expensive .22 LR ammo has more than 50% duds when i got em!

From then on, I use CCI all the way and doesn't have any problems at all! :)

I have shot through about 1k of their UMC in .40 S&W and i've never had a dud. The 22LR is not as great though my friends bolt action rifle would have cases tear and sometimes get a bullet left in the barrel(scary) My coworker's Moasquito also hates it but it hates all brands...

remington is universally known and credited for the best commercial production brass in a factory cartridge. That says something.

The issue with remington ammo is that they seem to be lowering the velocity of their ammunition for calibers that predate ww2. One should not have a brand new round of 30-06 have 18 inches of drop at 100 yards when the 20 year old box of the same load is shooting clover leafs at 100 yards, on a pie tin.

Also the bullets dont expand the way they used to in the past. It could be related to lower velocity, but that only goes so far.

And dirty is as dirty does. One should not shoot a single round of centerfire ammo and have the barrel of said weapon look like you just shot 500 rounds of 22lr through your favorite plinker in a single sitting.

No problems with their centerfire pistol ammo; in fact I didn't have any problems with their 9mm. that I had bought on sale at Dick's a while back. Wasn't even that dirty; very comparable to WWB in the same caliber.

Don't even get me started on Remington rimfire ammo. Goldens, Thunderbolts, Yellow Jackets, Vipers; didn't matter what it was, it simply was the worst ammo I've ever used.

You say tomato....

Their Golden Bullet rimfire is my favorite, and ThunderBolt does well too. The GB works with near total reliability in everything incl. a Nylon 66, and is the only 36 gr. that is reliable in a very old, worn Iver Johnson TP-22 that I've had for many many years, and that I love. Bought new for $100. About due to trade off, I guess. It has a very light strike and rarely lights Federal, any style, and has a high failure rate in Winchester. Never tried CCI, too much $$. But Remington nearly always goes off, goes straight, and works the gun.

I buy almost no factory CF, so I cannot say.

Remington Core-Lokt shoot's fine in my Remmy 700 SPS Tactical, I get 1.5" at 100 yards, about what you would expect. However, I'm now handloading superior ammo that shoots .75 MOA for about half the cost.:)

I have shot Remington .380ACP and .38 Special for quite awhile now and I have no complaints. I recently picked up a batch of .22LR Golden Bullets, but I haven't tried them yet. I also buy the Remington cheapy 12ga 7 1/2 shot shotgun shells at Wally-World for my Mossberg 500 riot gun, just for pracitice and they go boom every time.

I don't like Remington ammo and I know several guys that don't. Actually I don't like much anything Remington as most not all but most of their guns I've had or seen have had some sort of quality control issue that should have been taken care of before it left the factory.

That's not why I don't like their ammo though. Their .22 ammo is just crap and most everyone seems to think that. It's dirty and has a lot of ftf's.

Their centerfire ammo seems to be good as long as your gun likes it. My Browning 30-06 wasn't accurate with it so I didn't use it. My buddies Remington 7400 .243 wanted to hang up when shooting Remington shells but it worked fine with Winchester stuff. If your gun likes it I see no reason not to use it. I don't think it's bad ammo my guns just don't like it.

As for shotgun shells they seem okay. The 870 I had seemed to jam more with Remington buckshot but it still jammed some with Winchester and others. I also had a shell explode in the chamber. We aren't sure if it was a bad shell or something happened where the pump wasn't all the way forward. It shouldn't go off then but did so we aren't sure which it was. I've had a gun shop as well as many people look at it. Some think it was a bad shell and some think it was the gun. I'm not sure but it sort of turned me away from Remington ammo as that could have gone very very badly. Luckily no one got hurt though. It scared me pretty badly.

I've used a few Remington sport loads and they seem okay.

All in all if their Core Lokt stuff works for your gun I see no reason not to use it. Use whatever kind of ammo your rifle likes. That's what I do. Just so happens mine liked Federal stuff.

I know one or two guys here that like Remington ammo but the rest mostly dislike it. Winchester as well as Federal seem to be the two popular ones around here as well as the two I've had good experiences with. Some guns like one some like another kind of ammo.

I started buying Remington because my best friends husband works at the plant. I kept buying because it performs great for me. Don't forget that there is a Remington plant here in AR, so maybe people just like to complain because it's local or something. Seems kinda backwards I know, but it's like giving your siblings a hard time I guess.

My father is actually retired from there. Anytime I want to get him going, I just mention the subject. I seriously don't know what the deal is though.

Their bulk rimfire ammo is pure crap!

.

I was at Bi-Mart the other day looking to purchase some .22LR ammo. The shelves, which would normally loaded down with ammo, were bare save for a few boxes of American Eagle and a lone box of Remington rimfire that had "magically" appeared only moments earlier.

As soon as I saw the red boxes of AE, I scooped up four 400rd bricks and then set them on the counter that was directly behind me. A guy standing next to me grabbed the lone box of Remington that was sitting on the far right of the shelf. He gave me this look like I just bought the worst crap ever made. I turned to him, knowing exactly what he was thinking and said,

"I'll take this .22LR made by Federal any day over that box of Remington in your hands..."

Some guy looking at fishing lures a few feet away blurted out, "Remington rimfire is the best stuff out there!"

I laughed audibly as I strolled past him with my bag full of Federal goodness....
