A local pawn sh.op has a Remington model10 for 150 $. I had an old ithica37 about 20 years ago that I have been trying to replace since it was stolen. Are there replacment barrals for the model10 I would like to use it for an hd gun and keep the 28" barrel for duck and upland game. Any advice would be great. The gun is well used I will be reblueing and refinishing the stock I just want something I can use for both pourpus.
Thanks again.

I believe this is the Remington Model 10 the OP is referring to.

My reply is based on my experience with old shotguns in general. I have never owned a Model 10. However, I have owned other old shotguns of similar vintage. When you purchase an old shotgun, such as this, you need to keep in mind two major factors. First, parts are hard to come by. Second, people willing and able to repair them are hard to find. Many times you will have to do your own repair as many gunsmiths will refuse to work on old guns like this.

I always view shotguns of this nature as novelty items, something that’s fun to use for informal skeet or a rabbit hunt but not as a primary shotgun. I think guns of this nature should be limited to use where a jammed or broken gun is not a serious problem.

Therefore, if this shotgun is going to be used as a primary shotgun I would advise against the purchase. If it is to be used as a secondary shotgun that will be used for fun and where a failure will not be serious, and it’s in good condition and the price is low go ahead and buy it. Make sure that you are allowed to function fire it before turning over the money. Also, be prepared to search for parts and do your own repairs.

Thanks I had considered the parts problem. But I do most of my own repairs do gunsmith isn't an issue the reliability is an issue I had considered as well but not enough after reading your post. Im going to purchase it along with a win 1300 and use the win 1300 as a primary shotgun thank you again.
