Remington Nylon 66

Aside from the few .22 short gallery rifles, the majority of Nylon 66s are .22 long rifle only. There appears to be enough mass and overtravel in the bolt and striker to work with most ammo makers' .22 standard and high velocity rounds with little worry.

I have tried the subsonic craze in mine. Mine becomes a straight pull bolt action with CCI CB Longs (29gr @ 720fps) and is very quiet.
With the CCI Quiet .22 (40gr @ 710fps) mine ejects the empty but I have to retract the bolt handle to cock the striker and release a round into the feedway. I have not tried the CCI Quiet Semiauto (45gr @ 835fps).

I love my Mohawk Nylon 66 that I got for my birthday in 1964. I still have it, but don't shoot it as much as I did when I was a kid. Feared by ground hogs and squirrels alike and any snake that got in my way while on the trail. Reliable as the day is long and fairly accurate. It's the firearm I've owned the longest and love the most.

One of my Uncles had one of those when I was a kid , I was never impressed with it , as it never made it through a magazine without some kind of failure . my other uncle had a Browning semi auto .22 that was a sweet little gun made the Nylon thing look bad in every way . I recall sitting around listening to the old guys talking trash about each others guns and stuff , good times !

Friend of mine I went to high school with got a Nylon 66 for Xmas in about 1963. By our standards at the time, he was a spoiled rich kid. He had a car too, a 1956 Ford. He abused the hell out of both rife and car. The car eventually succumbed to his abuse, but not that 66. He abused it in every way only a farm kid can abuse a piece of equipment and that thing never failed. I'm certain he never cleaned it and being a rich kid he had an unlimited supply of ammo, which he burned shooting at anything and everything. And I helped him shoot it. I don't recall it ever failing to shoot.

Love my 1968 vintage Nylon 66. One of the first 22 rifles I got my hands on as a kid & picked it a couple of years back for a bit more than I wanted to pay ($300) but it was close to mint condition.

Stopped in a local shop I frequent & saw what I thought was a 66 in the rack & inquired about it. Turned out it was a Nylon 76 lever action that I'd never seen before. Only lever action Remington ever made & a has a very short lever throw like the Browning. They wanted $1,200 for it which is about what I see them going for after some research & the Apache Black 76 model is one of the rarest with only 1,600 manufactured.

Nice score ! I saw one for sale about 8 months ago in a little gun shop near me.I did not realize how collectible they are ,it was a brown one i recall.

I got to shoot it again this past weekend. About 50 rounds of Remington Golden Bullets without a hitch. The red dot sight was fairly close to zero when shooting at a gong, but I'll need to put it on paper. Darn fun to shoot.

below the logo on the bbl.

I may have mentioned making a speed loader for it out of aluminum arrows.
I had quite a few but only 2 left.
14 rounds in the arrow to insert completely into the stock tubular magazine.
